I swung my friend's irons earlier...he had Golf Pride grips(Golf Pride Whisper to be exact)...wow,they felt so great...they felt like they stuck to your hands...so much better than my old 15 year old grips...i now believe that i've being holding onto my clubs a little too tightly...

Ive got the Decade multicompound grips and I love them. They are cord up top and more rubber on the bottom...

They arent expensive, about 10 bucks a club installed....

Well worth it, especially if your grips are that old!

15 year old grips, I think gripping bare steel will feel better than your current grips!

In all seriousness, new grips make a hell of a difference, especially in wet weather and you can't go wrong with the golf pride range.

If you're strapped for cash, as a temporary measure, you can just try and clean up your existing grips - give them a good scrub with detergent and they should feel more 'sticky' than they do now.

I read an article somewhere that golf grips alter your dispersion by 10-30 yards, your distance from 10-20 yards, and your game by 3 to 5 strokes. It makes that much of an difference! On average you should be changing grips after every 1 to 1.5 years, depending on usage. Sometimes when clubs are left unused, the grips get hard and loses its texture.

With slippery grip, it affects your grip pressure, the ability to square the club, and releasing the club fluidly. Dude get new grips if you want to take your game to the next level.

Here's a good grip grooming tip: don't use soap and water, clean them with rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol. Soap can actually cause the rubber to degrade faster. After a good cleaning with alcohol, grips should feel almost new...maybe not 15 year old grips, though...

I second that on the New Decade multicompound. I put the midsizes on everything.

Yes I think it is time for some new grips. I have 8 - 9 year old Winn Excel grips on my irons. I am amazed they are still very soft and tacky. But I broke down and bought some Golf Pride DD2 grips recently and will install in the next few weeks.

I use a different grip on my 3 wood and Driver. I use the multi compounds on my hyrids and irons, but the standard Golf Pride tour velvet on the woods. Its all about feel for me and i dont like the way cord feels when i have those two clubs in my hands. So just being comfortable would be the pro for me. The con is i have to replace the tour velvets twice as often because they dont last very long. I change the multi compounds once a year on the 7i-wedge, the others as needed. I had to change the grip on my driver 3 times last year, though. Luckily, the tour velvets are cheap.

15 years?????? If your grips are more than 2 years old then they are ancient. They should be replaced every year. If yours are 15 years old then anything would feel good. I have a 22 year old driver with newer grips that that.

I use the Golf Pride Tour Wraps... cheap and good. Keep them clean and they retain their tackiness for a couple of years.

I don't think Golf Pride makes the Whisper grips anymore. At least, they weren't on the Golf smith website, and they have most makes and models. The multicompound grips are the latest rage, but can be expensive, as others have posted. Golf Pride Tour Velvet or Lamkin Crossline for me. Relatively inexpensive and do a great job.

I'm a HUGE Golf Pride fan. All of my clubs have Golf Pride "New Decade" grips on them except for the putter. When I custom ordered my Mizuno's, I had them put the New Decades on at the factory. When I bought the driver, wood and hybrids, I immediately had them put the New Decades on before I took the clubs home.

Grips are very important to me. I have my clubs re-gripped after every season. .... This may be overkill but I'm anal about my golf equipment.

I only spend $100-$200 on irons, so $80 for grips is not an option for me. And that's what it'd cost (installed) to have the new decade multi-compound grips put on just your 3-PW, not even counting any wedges or driver and 3 wood. I stick with Lamkin Crossline Midsize on all irons and usually the wedges. I switch out different stuff on my driver, 3W and hybrid as needed. The Lamkins are $3 plus supplies if I do it (I always do) or $5 installed if Golfsmith does it. They last a long time and really perform well.

I love the Golf Pride New Decade Multicompound grip, but just can't justify the cost for doing my whole set. My pro-shop charged me $13 to install one on a club last year. I found a set of Tacki Mac grips on ebay for $55. This price included 13 grips (red/black), and a grip install kit, with tape, solvent and instructions. I replaced 12 of mine yesterday in about an hour and a half. It would have been much quicker except for the old tape on my wedges was REALLY hard to get off.
I have a club with a new red/black Golf Pride, and I like the aesthetics of the Tacki Macs better, looking at them side by side. I'll be glad to post pics if anyone wants me to.

The difference in quality and feel between the two is not measurable as new. Once I play a few rounds with the Tacki Macs, I can give a better review.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
