I've had my current set of irons for about 7 years now. They are still in great shape since I've not played more than a few rounds a year up until last year when I got serious about playing.

Anyways, I've been sorta shopping around for new ones and noticed that plenty of sets now have matching pitching thru lob wedge available for them. Since I lost my pitching wedge years ago, I bought an after market 46 degree, 56 degree and a 50 which I'm going to replace with a 52. Personally, I don't have the option to match any wedges to my set. So, I had to go with "aftermarket" for a lack of a better term.

I really like the feel wedges I bought. I'm just wondering what other people do and what some pros and cons are for buying wedges that match your set vs. a set of clevelands or feels or nikes or whatever. Obviously, design wise, most wedges you buy that aren't part of a set are not cavity back and have more of a blade design. I'm sure that has something to do with feel, possibly forgiveness and controlling spin. I'm curious how many people use wedges that don't match their irons, even if matching wedges are available.

I prefer to have wedges that don't match. I love my Vokey wedges and will never use anything else. I prefer the look of a traditional wedge over the matching ones.

I like the feel of the different wedges too. I've considered changing out my PW to a Cleveland just like my other wedges. My buddy has wedges that match his Irons and he likes them a lot.

But it comes down to what you feel is better for you and gives you the confidence to hit the shot. Try them out and see?

I found the X-Tour to have a better look at address than ordering anymore of my matching irons thru ping. I think my Callys would spin more too.

For me its all about functionality when hitting wedges with proper grinds - not about forgiveness, so i dont like these complete sets at all, and always look for wedges that fit my need AND my eye, since i spent quite some time with my wedge in my hand.

Same for me, just so happens my wedges and irons are by the same EOM, but on my Christmas list is a set of Muira wedges!!!

I am a beginner and the first set of clubs I bought recently I wanted the whole set to match and now I regret it. Even though my current wedges are ok I was hitting much better with the vokeys.

Get what feels right to you.

I just picked up a non-matching gap and sand wedge. The matching wedge set made for consistent results - unless I grabbed the wrong one!!
