Aren't golf clubs made to strike a golf ball and not a boulder or a tree? Am I missing something?

I have got to tell ya Is2linda that looking at what you have in your bag tells me that that isn't your picture.

Who cares.

50% of the reason I visit the site is Is2Linda's avatar.

Thanks Steve

my brother broke 2 clubs in 1 week...
hybrid with the ball laying next to a tree... it didnt wrap around the tree like we thought it would... it just broke in half...
the other was his 5w... he hit a perfect shot... nice high draw... he walked towards the cart while admiring his shot... holding his club in front of him... ran into the cart... club first... put a ding on his shaft but it wasnt 'broken' so he stuck it in his bag... a few holes later during his back swing... the lower half of his club flew straight up in the air and everyone ducked for cover...
i blame it on graphite... what are we playing tennis out there?
good ole fashioned steel is how you wrap clubs around a tree!

That is so disturbing...

In my Warbird Hot Stand Bag:

I've actually broken 3 clubs. The 3W I described earlier is the only one that was stupid behavior where I "deserved" it. The other two were my 3 and 5 irons from my starter set. On one, I had a funny lie on an embankment, so it's possible I hit a bit fat, but it felt like pretty clean contact. The ball flew 30 yards, the club head 40. The 3I went a couple weeks later on the range, where I know it was clean contact. Both of them snapped through the metal of the hosel, so it wasn't even cheap graphite... just cheap clubs.

In the bag:

This topic is excellent.

I broke the shaft of my Ram Accubar pitching wedge on a tree the day before a tournament in 1986. I haven't played Ram irons or that golf course since. Coincidence? Maybe.

Derrick,

Excellent instruction. You will receive a passing grade on your report card. Well Done.

    • I know. I was just kidding. BTW - I'd take the second place with the meltdown. It would at least make a good story.
    • That answers my question.  That feels more natural to me. I'll work on that. Thanks
    • Complex question. Good players begin pushing forward around P2. Visibly around P3. They're well on their way forward at P4.
    • Still plugging away with the teacher.  I do have a question after working on some drills last night. This is something I should know already but for some reason, I have gotten myself confused. It deals with weight transfer on the downswing. At what point, should that take place?  Should it be early (prior to reaching A4) ?  I ask because in one of my drills  I get to A4, I feel the weight transfer AS my arms drop, and then go.  Now this may be totally normal, but I "feel" like this gets me in a weird timing position and causes me to try and do too much at once.
    • Tentatively in for at least one of those days. My job situation is a bit up in the air at the moment so need to get that sorted out first then I'll know more for sure or not.
