Anyone can be sparked into playing to their potential by being picked on the team, but why would he take the risk when he can choose among many others which have been playing well lately?

I don't know, Zeph.

Oh....wait a minute.....maybe he's playing matchmaker for his daughter.....after all, she and Sergio are now split....... I'd enjoy seeing Scott turn it on with his game. It's a shame to see that talent squandered for whatever reason.

I think Norman could've done better than Scott. Perhaps he can pick it up and play well, but I have doubts. How can someone with such a good golf swing play so poorly? Sabbatini, by his own admission, hasn't played very well of late either. I like the Ishikawa pick. The kid's got nothing but upside, and even if he doesn't do that well in the President's Cup, it can only help push him to the next level.

If you compare the quality of competition, on paper, the President's Cup always offers higher ranked golfers than the Ryder Cup. I prefer watching the President's Cup matches for that reason.

Frank Nobilo said today on GC it was a coin flip between Scott and Sabbatini, and implied that Sabbatini would not have been a good team player. Sounded a little defensive to me, but if that's the choice, I could see Norman picking a friend.

Yeah... I can definately see NOT picking Sabbatini... he would probably shoot off his mouth and get the Americans fired up, or worse yet, piss off his own team. Japan having something to watch is good for golf, and you can't deny the kid has a lot of talent for his age. However, it seems there are players aside from Scott who might have gotten the nod... but as others have pointed out Norman and Scott ARE pals. Not entirely sure I would have put my friend in that situation though.

Adam Scott was Norman's perfect pick, like Tiger comming back from knee surgery he played his first tournament in match play situation. Adam Scott can only build from this experience and finally reach his potential and this match play format will be the boost that Adam Scott needs and I think he will definitely play well for his team.

I will be there to watch Adam and Ryo

Adam Scott is a decent player. Years ago, he was a great player. I think Norman was hoping that with Adam Scott playing for all of Australia it'd give him something to play better for. His swing looks pretty good, he's just lacking results the last few years.

I'm really interested to see how Ishikawa performs. This is a guy, who could very well be the face of golf in 5 years or so. Either way, this year's President's Cup is going to be really fun to watch.

I haven't paid much attention to Scott the last couple of years, has his entire game been off or just parts of it?

Anyone else see Johnny Miller's comments on the choice during the BMW today (Sat)? He was very candid (and spoke with unusual intensity it seemed to me), essentially saying that if Scott doesn't greatly elevate his game and make a respectable performance Norman will have a LOT of explaining to do. I would agree with that statement. Miller also commented on how unfair it was to others ranked much much higher than Scott - what can they be thinking?

Remind me, just what is Scott's world ranking these days? hmmm, I guess it has the merit of not being a case of "what you done for me lately ???"

The buddy system at work in the game of goff I guess.

The point is, a lot of explaining to do to whom? This isn't Ryder Cup like intensity or beauracracy. Norman won't have to answer to anyone, and wouldn't care if he did. Good on him. The only criticism seems to be coming from American commentators, really no big deal.

All of it. Played great last year. Saw him upclose and personal at Bethpage this year and he looked as disinterested as you could on a golf course.

    • I speak for myself. If I inventory my swing thoughts, swing tempo, optimum muscle tension and rehearse a swing before I take my address, then I pull the trigger reasonably quickly with usually acceptable results. Like a proper program download before deploying it. If I don't bother to by forgetting or just not caring, I am inclined to look for my cues while hovering over the ball after taking the address, while tension builds up and then I fire with a half ass program that is still buffering. I guess that's no better than rolling a dice. In other words, a good pre-shot routine does wonders. I am not advising folks to take 13 practice swings while the flowers wilt waiting for something to happen, but one or maybe two are reasonable and good for you. I am certain hitting half ass shitty shots and making double bogey takes longer than making a par.  My desire this year is to just that as I have not developed a habit taking a practice swing and as a result have tendency to freeze over the ball after address, that is counter productive for both time and result. I think that is what @saevel25 is talking about in the OP.

    • I think there's a difference between taking time over the ball and taking time to play a shot, at least IMO. One thing I've noticed in a few guys I play with who take a long time over the ball to pull the trigger, is that their backswing is really fast and I think it makes it harder to have a smooth rhythmic down swing. It's almost like they take so long to swing that when they do they speed to catch up. Doesn't lead to good golf IMO.

    • As long as it's from a reputable seller it should be just fine. Just make sure the picture of the weight looks the right shaped weight for that specific driver head. You can even weigh it yourself when you get it if you want to be extra sure. Personally I don't consider $15 for something that can greatly change your impact and delivery characteristics to be "not cheap" but that's just my opinion. Especially since you know it's bringing it closer to what you were fit into and you're already saving a bunch of money by going the used/prior model year route too.
