I have played poker on pokerstars and bet on bodog. I wouldn't worry about pokerstars...I have a friend that has cashed out over 50k from them with no problems.

Surprised to see so little action in this thread, most golfers gamble a bit on the course, and most I know gamble a bit off the course too...

I recommend playing at Full Tilt. It's probably the safest site out there today along with Poker Stars. Both are fine to play at. I would recommend not playing at Ultimatebet or Absolute Poker because they have had ridiculously horrible cheating scandals that have gone down there. Just google "Absolute Poker Cheating" and you will see what I mean.

My final recommendation would be to make sure that when you create your account, you get rakeback with it. It's easy to get when you first sign up, but if you already have an account, you have to jump through quite a few hoops in order to get it. You basically get a percentage of the rake you pay re-deposited into your account every seven days or so, and it's a great way to survive long stretches of break even sessions.

The only sketchy part about Full Tilt that I know of are the Bot Scandals that they had one or two years ago. Basically, a bunch of computer savvy guys created these computer programs that can play effective, tight NL holdem and if you are not aware of them, they can be profitable against you. You have to be pretty clueless to constantly be losing to a bot, but you should be aware that they may be out there. I think as of right now, there aren't many on that site anymore but I could be wrong. Besides, once you spot a bot (by keeping good statistics) you can destroy them by constantly raising their flop bets because they are programmed to fold if they don't have anything.

Enjoy your experience and make sure you never play with more than 5% of your bankroll or you will go broke- I don't care how good you are at this game- you will go broke without proper bank roll management.

Good luck!

I play a little poker online mostly low/moderate limit games as i don't trust having much money offshore at one time. I used to play alot at party poker before they left the US market was my favorite site and a great spot to use there bonuses, now i play mostly at pokerstars. I have not had the greatest of luck there but for the limits i play at there its mostly just for fun , also played at full tilt but just got horribly bad beat to death there on a consistent basis , also have played at Ultimate Bet and found the site nice but was very little action in any games besides holdem , and even at holdem action lacked at times so table variety suffered.

I do a lot more sports betting then anything else but with laws changing etc offshore i play on the credit side now instead of with all the post up books like BetJamaica and Bodog etc.

Bodog was sold and now has new management , its in i guess somekind of rebuilding process , not sure i would play there atleast for large amounts until its clear how things will go there and how stable the new ownership is.

credit side of things simply means ya ya dont post up to play , u play on a line of credit and then settle up on a certain day each week , either collecting or laying.

Wow, didnt realize bodog was sold.... Havent played in a while...

What sites offer betting without having to post up to play?? That would be nice to settle things out once a week, so your money is def safe....

Lemme know about that man..

I play on Full Tilt once in a while. I used to play often but online poker is not nearly as fun as real poker and apparently I suck at it. I'm up hundreds in real life, down $150 in online. Full Tilt is the way to go though.

I played a high volume of online poker for the last 6 years. Pokerstars and Full Tilt are mainly the only legit sites that are still open for American players. You need a debit card or Western Union transaction to deposit money. I deposited $50 when I graduated in 2003 and never had to deposit anything ever again.

Jim,

You pretty much need to know an agent or get someone to vouch for you to get a credit account at most spots that offer them esp now the way things are law wise and especially the economic situation.
