Had an 8:00 tee time saturday with an old high school buddy. We played a 36 hole match on saturday and it went very well.

Golf course

First 18-
Started off with 8 pars in a row only missed one green, then I didnt get up and down on 9 for par. The back 9 was the same story except 2 bogeys and 1 birdie for a +2 72. I was striking the ball very well, hit 14 greens but I couldnt make any putts. I won the match 2up

Last 18-
Made the turn -1 and then went on a birdie run from 11-15 making 5 straight birdies one was a 2 putt birdie from 7ft. Won the match on 14 but had to continue since i had never been this deep. I blew a drive through the fairway on 16 it hit the path and went OB. I reloaded with a 3wood piped it, made double and went on to shoot -4 66.

My first time under par since coming back and it felt so good being that deep. I really feel as if it is coming together now. I just need to find some events to play in and continue to work on my putting. I hit 15 GIR on my final round and really felt as if i left a lot of putts on the course.

Anywho, I was really excited and had to share.

that's just SICK!!!! 36 holes...and you keep the composure to shoot 2 great rounds.... Sick scores...and if you ended with a cigar and a few glasses of blue or glenlivet 18...i'd call it a perfect day.

Congrats!

Sounds like a wonderful round of golf. To be under par with a double bogey is crazy!

GIR make it so much easier to go low. An average round for me is about 4-6 GIR. Hence the handicap...

GIR certainly improve the scoring but it all comes down to making the putts. Sometimes when i am on the course i get too complacent with par. Thinking, "oh, im on the green easy two putt par." It is important to focus on every stroke one makes. Hopefully I can apply the same mentality on the course as when i reflect on past rounds.

That is much more difficult said than done. Applying yourself mentally to every shot absolutely wares a person out at the end of a day.

Its funny, when I look at my overal stats, when I get a GIR on a par 3 or 5, I always make Par. For me, right now with my current handicap, getting pars is nice.

I too broke par for the first time in my life yesterday. It was in disc golf and it was only my second time playing. Man. That game is EASY. I had 4 birdies in a row at one point. It was about a year before I ever made a birdie in ball golf. Incidentally, it's a great compliment to ball golf since it works the other side of your body, is much quicker timewise, and costs pretty much zero. Congrats friend. The closest I've ever come is +7 total, and +1 on 9 holes.

Bunkerputt, I have not played disc golf live but i am addicted to it on the Wii. That game is so much fun.

It's a lot of fun. I'm totally into it now. I went and bought 6 different discs and can't wait to get out there again. My only struggle is trying to keep the obsessive personality at arms length. Since it's relatively easy, I'd like to stay purely athletic and not think so much about what I'm doing. I'm hoping it rubs off in real golf. Plus it's easier time-wise and there's a course within walking distance of my house.

    • In the old days, pre-2020, "playing to your handicap" meant a net score about equal to the Course Rating.  that led to problems when people played against each other from different tees, people playing tees with a lower CR would generally shoot lower scores.  Course Handicaps were adjusted for each competition to make it even, usually lowering the course handicap for the "forward tee" players. So now if you "play to your handicap", the (68.4-72) term means your score will be even par, no matter which tees you play from.  No adjustment needed for people playing from different tees.  Look at your example, the guy shoots 82 every time, his Course Handicap of 10 gives him an even par net score every time.
