Yesterday I was out with my dad and my uncles.. We're on the 18th hole, and my dad hits one right onto the fairway. Next thing you know a guy comes to our fairway and grabbed my dad's ball. He then proceeds to come back and say, oops I'm sorry. I hit a ball over here, and I just grabbed a ball I thought was mine. I found it on the fairway, and then just tosses it back to where he "supposedly" found it.

How can people be so dumb! He was playing with some Top Flight balls, and my dad and us were playing with Maxfli's, Nike's and Titleist balls. We all mark our balls also. My dad and uncles usually marks their ball with their Initials, and I usually write on mine "NOT YOURS!"

Get this.. this is the same guy who probably hit my ball earlier too. My 2nd shot went short and to the right of the green behind some trees. I drove the golf cart down there and then see this guy smack a ball out the same area my ball would have landed. I didn't say anything and proceeded to just drop.

I guess he preferred your balls to his

Why can't people just look at the ball where it is and determine if it is theirs? They have to pick it up walk around with it then they determine it isn't theirs!

I mean shouldn't you know what kind of a ball you hit too? This was on our fairway too, he should atleast be more careful. I never pickup any balls unless I see that it's been cratered in for awhile. You can't just pick up a ball just because you think it's yours or what not.

No surprise there. Happens to me all the time. Sometimes its a race to your ball before some hacker decides it looks good enough to hit.

That's hilarious, mind if I copy you and do the same. I would like to see the face of someone who picks up a ball and sees that staring back.

Look around. These type of people aren't just at the golf course, they are at work, in stores...maybe your next door neighbor. Bottom line is...they just don't care.
They do what they want..when they want.

It didn't ruin his day when you got upset...only yours.

I never ever pick up any ball that isn't mine regardless if it doesn't look like any other golfer is even on the course. Why can't everybody adopt this policy. If it's not yours just leave it alone. Of course many people do not mark their ball nor check to see if it's even theirs.

You should have created a very heated confrontation afterwards, remonstrating with the guy and telling him to keep his hands off your balls.

And so forth.

Never have understood why people don't know what the heck they are gaming.

Some, I fear, are just looking to cash in on an easy lie....when they know good and well that their ball is OB or lost.

That's why I switched to Wilson Hope (pink) ladies ball. It matches the skirt and purse I wear while putting.

It's also a very good excuse for constantly hitting 90 yard shots which go 2 feet off the ground.

When I come up short of the fairway, I can see that hot pink orb glowing, inviting, calling to me, "hit me again Sean, and put some stink on it!!"

If you're hitting the pink ball you at least have to make it past the ladies tees though, which on some holes is quite a task...

Well like he said, wearing a pink skirt and purse, I think he could legitimately join Caster Semenya on the ladies tee in the first place.

This is why I mark the living shit out of my ball. It looks like a Jackson Pollock painting when I'm finished with it.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
