Figured I'd start up this thread for the week's big tournament.

I have a question to kick things off. Does anybody know how many spots ahead of Tiger Paddy needs to finish to win the Cup? He's ranked number 6 in the standings so he won't win it automatically if he wins the tournament but he should have a good shot at it.

I'm guessing by just being Phil. Although, I'm fairly surprised it is on a Thursday and not a Sunday....

I'd probably put money on a 4 putt.

So, I was wrong. Here's how it really went down:

Good drive, 2nd shot to greenside bunker, fried-egg lie skulls it out of trap over the green, hacks it out back over the green into same bunker, leaves 5th shot in bunker, finally hit 6th shot out of bunker. 2 putt. Oh Phil....

Paddy can win the cup if he wins and Tiger finishes anything other than solo second.

I'm not sure about scenarios that involve someone winning and a third party (not the winner nor Tiger) taking the cup.

I heard someone on the way into the office this morning say that Tiger was giving O'hair putting tips this week? What?

Yup...the video was on Golf Central this morning. What a guy!

I think he told him to hit extra hard and if it's inside the leather, picking up is OK.

Like Shindig said.

I picked Paddy to win, but Tiger needs a really bad round for him to do it I think. As I write this they're tied at -3. I'm sticking with Paddy though.

That's one of the nice things about professional golf. Yes, they want to beat one another, but they're still friends off the course. So, Tiger will help his friends - look, for example, at how much Mark O'Meara benefited back in '98. You'd never see Randy Moss and Wes Welker hosting seminars for the Jets on how to make touchdowns.

Cink just hit 2 balls OB from the Tee. That will end his run for the top today!

I caught that. Then he STILL hit driver on his 3rd tee shot and also went left toward the fence! I would've bet dinner that the 2nd provisional would've been right.

Anybody know how Phil got an 8 on the par 4 14th?

I have this from my wife over breakfast. She read it in the local rag and I didn't have time to. She said he was in a greenside bunker after his second shot - not bad. He then hit out clear through the green into rough. Then he messed up that shot and ended up in a bunker again (same one?), then took two shots to get out of that bunker and onto the green. He then 2-putted for the 8.

oy-veey! This may not be exactly right but probably captures the essence of it.

Saw it on TV yesterday - he looked like a 30 handicapper. I have to say - he's a disaster. I doubt he wins anymore majors. He's quickly coming up on 40, he doesn't take good care of himself (he's a slob) and he's never been able to harness his swing or his game for long periods of time. He misses more 3 foot putts than anyone in history. He's mentally (and physically) soft.

Paddy can win the cup if he wins and Tiger finishes anything other than solo second.

Which is a joke. Harrington played like a 6 handicapper the first 6 months of the season.

Dayum , that's kind of harsh, ain't it? The guy's had at least 5 top ten finishes - including 2 wins - this year and for a great deal of the summer has been dealing with a lot at home.

... And I'm not really a Mickelson fan.
