right now it's a highlight-style showing. What are some other ways golf should be broadcast?

I always prefer how DirecTV has it set up during Majors. They'll have a channel dedicated to the feature group, a channel dedicated to a certain hole or two, and a channel with the normal network feed. I'd like to be able to switch around and follow certain groups when I want to, and avoid anything with Faldo at all costs

I'm not saying that's how it should be shown, that's just how I like it.

ProTracer all the time... it's awesome to really see how these guys shape the ball... I was watching today in the iPhone app the video they upload and... it's awesome!

As long as the PGA doesn't assign numbers to players and start selling jerseys. I would also like to see less of Tiger Woods (I know he is one of 'golf's' Gods) but there is a lot of talented players being over shadowed. Names that come to mind:

Angel Cabrera
Paul Goydos
Steve Marino (although highlighted more recently)
YE Yang
David Toms

and final we are seeing some future great players like Sean O'Hare (and I hope its not because Tiger gave him a putting lesson).

As for Tiger, we'll see his highlight 'reel' for 2 hours on The Golf Channel after each round anyways!

My two cents

+1 on the all the time protracer.

After the round on the first three days, I'd like to see Faldo, Feherty, McCord, and Kostas attempt some of the really difficult shots of the day pulled off by the current pros. This would be televised live and they only get one shot.

Or they could televise their attempts at the beginning of the following day's round.

I would really love to see the ball flights, and not just the usual ball in the sky shot...

ProTracer would be wicked sweet if they could somehow do it in real time...

Always on a pvr would be my vote - love to fast forward through the talk. I also love the protracer and the slow motion shots. I also wish they would always have the yardage and club the player is using in the top corner of the screen (like down and distance in football)

there should always be an option where you can watch a certain player all the time, i mean they have cameras on everyone so it wouldnt be difficult!

I think it's fine the way it is but could be cooler if they had a few more little features. Like everyone else said protracer. For the guys at the top of the leaderboard maybe show some in the bag stuff every once in a while. Show more of the caddy to player talk. I think it would be cool if they could find a way to do a ideal line for putts. Then you can see the players putt and see what it's like in comparison to the line.

Certainly not a Tiger hater but please show us at least the top five players that are in contention for the win besides Tiger. Can't remember the exact tournament or player, but my favorite was when one of the unexpected won and they didn't even cover him during the live action, they had to scramble to throw together some of his highlights from his round as the trophy was being presented. All the new technology is great but I miss the style of announcing/format employed during the sixties where they could only cover a limited number of holes. This forced them to show nearly the full field the as they finished the final holes of the course. And the announcers didn't hype some phony drama they were trying to create, they simply told the story unfolding before them with out all the garbage talk about unrelated events to the current play before them.

I agree with the multiple group choice and protracer. Hopefully technology gets better and cheaper to the point where bigger and sharper TVs are affordable and we can follow the ball w/o protracer.

Like the drones the USAF has, perhaps one day, it'll be cheap enough to make little flying vehicles that carry cameras so networks won't need cranes and are super maneuverable so that we get shot angles we've never seen before. The ball in the air shot is so lacking.

I know networks need sponsers and money, but the whole corporate suit interview and commercials are just too much. Also, the announcers inject themselves too much into the game.

Maybe 3D so that we can actually see how greens are sloped. Down the road, perhaps a VR attachment so that we can make a virtual putt of the putt just missed so you can give credence to "I could have made that."

I would love to be able to choose who I am following on the course. I dont always care what Tiger is doing, the network seems to only care about him and a few select others (obviously for advertising money purposes.)

I like the handheld shots from behind that shows the view the player sees of the shot. Gives a better perspective of the course that way.

I don't care for the shot tracer or the putting line or any of that everything-has-to-look-like-a-video-game crap designed to appeal to the short attention span crowd.

I've long had the idea of a pay per view option I like to call "Tiger Vision". This would follow Tiger and his group exclusively. Every shot traced. Yardages and club selection for every shot. The results of every shot clearly shown with yardages hit. Maybe even mic Tiger's caddy. I"m really surprised this hasn't been done yet. And all commercial free of course.

When pros putt, I like to see right down the line their putting at almost a close up kinda distance - the one where you can see the ball taking all the slopes. ProTracer all the time would be cool too.

    • that is an excellent approach. I did that with my last set. I made a few 7 irons from different heads and shafts. Getting a feel for how they play on the course is the right idea. Let us know how it goes.
    • I’m glad the USGA booted some of the hecklers. It’s getting out of hand. I wish the networks wouldn’t mic the crowd to give those idiots a platform.
    • New member here, and I have decided to upgrade my clubs. I have been playing for a long time but these last 10 years I have had to put four kids through college. So I've played a few rounds a year and some years have not played at all. I am currently playing Titleist 716 AP2's with Rifle 6.5 steel shafts and Winn grips. I used to hit my 7 iron around 165 yds until just 5 years ago. I turned 62 this year and noticed I can barely get my 7 iron to 145 yds. I went for a fitting to try out some new player distance irons. I don't think I need game improvement irons because I'm pretty straight and rarely try to work a ball (if I'm working a ball, then I most definetely did something wrong to get there). I tried a bunch of irons (Callaway, Mizuno, PXG, Taylormade, Srixon, Ping, and Titleist) and I kept coming back to the Ping and Titleist. They just felt right and really looked good when lining up a shot. The Ping, by far, went the longest of all the irons. The Titleist was a close second in distance. Both felt buttery smooth through impact. I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with these irons. I was getting 160 yds with a nice smooth swing (81 mph swing speed). I know I'm asking a lot of my clubs but my last fitting was 27 years ago and I ended up with some Cleveland TA3's or TA2's forged irons with Dynamic Gold S300 (swing speed 87 mph). I really love the feel of my AP2's and the place I'm going to purchase from is going to make a 7 iron in both Ping and Titleist for me to test on real grass. I'm pretty certain it's going to be either one. They're both identical in price for a set of 5-PW. I'm going to forego a 4 iron and get another 4 hybrid to go along with my 3 hybrid. Any and all replies are welcome.
    • Day 47, June 22.  After work today, I spent 20 minutes in my indoor practice room, hitting about as many balls.  Slow, as slow as I could, 6-iron swings, same priority piece as the past month.
    • Day 291 6-22 full, faster swings, focusing on low point, missing towel. Recorded some face on and dtl. Practicing full speed changes is something I wasn't doing enough.
