This is very...very true with the Taylor Made sticks...not so much with Titleist and PING.

I think the sticks you are looking at are great. I like the adjustibility for you on the R9 woods. As you progress through, you may find you prefer and open face as opposed to the closed faces so many drivers seem to have. I like the Vokey wedges but I really like the Taylor Made RAC wedges, too. I'd not wait on the wedges, though. You really do want the current box/square grooves vs. what will be available in 2010(new standards in place for grooves). You really don't have to worry as much about shaft flex with these, either, as most all wedges are the same (stiff). At 6'1", you may need a degree upright or so...maybe. A fitter could tell you and then adjust the wedges easily. I really do suggest you go ahead and get your wedges now.

These are simply outstanding drivers. They are already being discounted $50 due to the new G15 line hitting the shelves. You can go in and be fitted for the right shaft/loft/grip/length too. These heads are awesome....hot and forgiving all over the face of it. Great drivers.

I think you've got some solid ideas on some really high quality sticks. I'm seeing great deals on those Burner irons all the time. I've seen some outstanding prices on the RAC wedges, too. You are fortunate to have a brother with a keen golfing eye. His help and your zeal for the game will make your hard (but fun) work pay huge dividends. I'll bet you make your hcp goal easily. Don't be scared to try many different putters first. There are more styles now than I've ever dreamed of seeing. Figure out what works best for you. It would help if you tried to mate the type of putter with your type of stroke (once you determine what that is)....face balanced style for a straight back-straight-through......toe hang style for a open-to-closed stroke.

If you've only been playing for a year, you probably don't have a set, repeatable swing built yet. Before being custom fitted for clubs, you should probably build a consistent swing, and then get fitted. Otherwise, your swing may change drastically, and then your left with a very expensive bag of misfit clubs.

If you can afford all of that, go for it. If you can't, I'd go the used ebay route or get new clubs of older model big names(such as a new set of callaway irons but the model is from a few years back). This will give you better equip. at a more affordable price. I think it's more important to have clubs that are fitted to your swing speed, and other specs. This is vital to play your best and get the most out of your equipment. I'd also recommend getting a top of the line ball to help give you that extra edge. The most important technology in golf in recent years is to the golf ball, so take full advantage of it. As far as clubs, I use a $100 set of irons, $60 driver, $50 wedges, etc. and I get great performance out of them because they fit my swing so I wouldn't be spending a fortune on clubs if I were you. The ball on the otherhand, I would go with the top ones, Titleist Pro-v or Callaway Tour i. Good luck, let us know how you progress.
