The contestants picked their spots in advance. They were then ordered closest to farthest.

Ah, thanks.

Giulliani may be a jerk, but he's smart enough to figure out how stress plays out in these things. Plus his sand shot was one of the few pro-worthy shots I saw.

I was surprised at the number of guys that went for the lob shot. Under pressure, I just don't see going to that shot. Risk/Reward wasn't there, particularly for those that saw the number of participants that already played that shot. Even more harshly, if your chip shot or your sand shot are not your go-to shots, you can forget about playing on the PGA tour.

A few opening thoughts: Mediocre first episode, but I expect stuff to heat up once we get familiar with the personalities. Andrew Guiliani looks like he once held the distinction of being the most annoying 8 year old on the planet. I was pretty surprised how awful their short game shots all were to open the show, but it's only one shot, and I'm not about to judge them on it.

This should be good though- they all look to be very strong players, and the level of competition looks to be much greater than the Couples season, Men vs. Women on PEI, and Kanaapali, the only other seasons I have watched so far.

It's Golf Channel, so.... yeah. Pretty much six or seven times a day.

I get tired of deleting the damn show from my DVR. If it doesn't say "repeat" or "new" in the info my cable gets all confused and records everything even when I have it set to only record "new" episode. Any the Golf Channel seems to never list it as "repeat" after the first airing.

On another note, I wasn't extremely impressed with the first show considering a lot of these guys have played professional golf. You'd think their nerves would be a little better than that, but we'll see how the rest of the season pans out.

he's a jerk. I met him a couple times during his time at Duke... and him trying to swing his dad's big boy pants around the golf team to not get the boot was ... well you get the idea.

if he stays around, i think he will go down in big break history as the most unlikeable player of all-time.

I was also surprised more of the guys didn't choose the fairway shot for the intial test. Of the three shots I'd think the one you've got the most likelihood of making would be the fairway chip shot (next I'd say the greenside bunker with the hardest being the flop).

Who the hell hits a 387 yard drive? Happy Gilmore? Something tells me that guy cannot do that on command whenever he wants.

And just for discussion purposes, if he could do it on command, that would answer the question about why he's not already on the tour without seeing him play. He's either a head case or can't putt well enough (or both).

Maybe not 387 on command, but the Finau brothers hit it a long way. I think Tony is the longer of the two and I've seen him hit it pin high on a 380 yard par 4 on the Golf Channel during a Nationwide Tour Event. I think his ball speed is like low-mid 190's or something where the average pro is 165ish.

I'm going to sound like a real jerk - but I can't really picture any of these guys being successful golfers. They're all very good players, no doubt - but I can't even see these guys playing on the Nationwide tour. Maybe some have already, not sure. But their short games are just not good, and some of the wedge shots were horrible. These guys spray it everywhere, from close distances.

A few of them already have played on the Nationwide Tour and qualified for PGA Tour events. I wasn't impressed either after the first episode, but I think it's a little premature to say they couldn't be successful. We only got to see a couple shots on the first show.

Never heared of this guy before, til i read an article about him trying to sue Duke for getting kicked off the golf team, and my instant reaction was - what a jerk.... So i was quite suprised to see him in the line up.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
