For me it's a mixture of things...below 45, windy, rainy.

If it's 2 of those three I won't play. Otherwise I can make it.

As long as the ground isn't frozen, I'm good to go. If it's really windy on top of being cold, I won't play though.

it's not the outside temperature, but how 'cold' it is. I'll play if it's 10 degrees above 0, as long as it's sunny and not windy. I played last year when all the water hazards on the course were frozen over. It was sooo peaceful, one of the few braze souls. It was sunny and very little wind. So, once I started moving, I hardly even needed much more than a light jacket (oh....and gloves at least between shots).

btw - I hit my 3rd shot 'fat' on the 2nd hole that round (par 5). It hit the little inlet of water in front of the green and bounced up onto the green. Try that in the middle of summer!

45 and sunny with no wind is as far down as I would go. If it was windy and/or cloudy it will have to be in the 50's for me to play.

Now if I don't have to pay for it, I will go as long as it is above freezing. I refuse to pay $30-$40 to go out and be miserable. If someone else wants to pay then I am okay with it.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I'll play in the mid 40s as well if there's no rain/wind/snow. I've played in worse, but I'm not that young and crazy anymore.

Some days out here, it gets as cold as 60°. With wind chill, it feels below absolute zero (I'm exaggerating, of course).

That should be too cold, but I'm slowly getting used to these cold days. I doubt there will be a non-(rainy + windy) day this winter that I wouldn't be willing to go outside and play.

haha cold in Southern California is not cold. I loved being able to play in 70 degree weather around Christmas time.

I have played in some horrid weather. I would say my limit now is 45ish. If it is sunny and calm it feels ok. The wind/clouds really make the difference. I would rather be 40 and pretty than 55 and windy/cloudy.

There were no days this past year that I didn't play due to the cold. I did have to wait out some long frost delays....that get's old....but was able to play.

High winds with temps in the high 30s and low 40s can make it unbearable. I've quit after 9 holes due to this on two occasions this past winter.

Long pants, under armour cold wear shirt, short sleeved golf polo, and lightweight golf sweater that is water proof with zip off sleeves is the ticket.

35ish and still am good to go...with wind mid 40's. to me the big key is frozen ground. If the top is totally frozen you can't hit a good shot anyway...typical here in PA we play every week through most or all of December. By the start of January it becomes hit or miss and bt Feburary we are pretty much screaming for March...which by the way is one of the great moths of the year. The weather starts to change, so even though it is poor it is going in the right direction and then March madness starts and then the April green starts coming back....ah happy days.

This year I have firgured out though. Taking a trip at Christmas, 4 days the first week in february, a week at sprintg training in march and....bam back into reasonable golf season!!!

When I was in Eagleville, PA (near King of Prussia, 40 miles NW of Philly), it got really cold during winter months. I played even when I could not get the tee into the ground--as long as the course was open.

My limit in general is--as long as the course is open I will play--except, when it is too windy. I hate playing when it there is 20-30 MPH or higher wind.

I don't mind a little rain (not a downpour, but a good steady drizzle), but when it is windy, my swing goes to hell, so I don't even try anymore.

The two questions I ask in cold weather...Can I keep the layers down enough to not restrict my movement & can I go at least 9 holes without losing the dexterity in my hands. Both of these have to do with golfability rather than comfort. Both also came with experience!

I'm pretty comfortable in the cold as long as it's for such an endeavour as golf. I can be warm in the clubhouse later. When the cold and wind and rain makes me not able to swing my club right is when I stop.
