So Ive been searching for hours on this topic and as you can guess, ive gotten mixed answers.

Some say the 5.5 is nearest the s300 and some say the 6.0 is nearest the s300....

Does anyone have any specific numbers on this?

Thanks!

Jim

From what I gather the S300 is in between the two, probably not a big difference either way.

the dg s300 is heavier than both the project x shafts.
the project x 5.5 is 115g, the 6.0 is 120g and the dg s300 is 130g.
if you're looking for the same weight the project x 6.5 is 130 g.

Posted
both the project x 5.5 and 6.0 are lighter than the dg s300 which weights 130g.
the comparable project x shaft is the 6.5 which is aldo 130 g.

Are you talking physical parameters, e.g., weight as some have mentioned, or performance? I would be interested in the latter also.

Performance....

I want to play a stiff shaft, but dont know if the 5.5 or the 6.0 would be better, and just wanna know how they compare to the s300

I actually have a chance today to hit the s300 px 5.5 and px 6.0 side by side with 6 irons at the range today!

What exactly should I look for as far as comparing the shafts go? Whats a good, solid flight characteristic?

Thanks!

Realistically, if you hit them all and can't tell the difference, then I wouldn't worry about it. Just get the one that suits your swing.

Source.

According to the hard data a PX 5.5 and S300 (taper tip) should be about the same in terms of frequency and recommended swing speed (RSS). The S300 is heavier and more tip firm (lower T/B ratio).

I have PX 5.5 in some CG1s and S300 (TT) in some MP-14s and I believe the numbers. But also my impression is that they don't play anything alike. My impression is that the PX likes to be hit clean and hard and the S300 will accept about any swing with equanimity. I also think the PX spins more and has a higher and more controlled trajectory.

I'm not honestly sure how much difference any of this makes. I think I could pretty much live with any iron shaft you put in my hands but day in and day out I would rather have a lot less shaft than I might ultimately need than even a tiny bit more because 90% (or more) of the time I play at less than my ultimate.

I read a great article on golfwrx.com. People seem to agree that the S300 performs like a 5.0 and that a S400 performs like a 5.5.

Thanks a ton for the replies everyone! So I compared the 5.5, the 6.0, and the S300....

After holding each one the S300 feels significantly heavier than the PX's, something I didnt like. I also liked the flight a lot more with the PX's....

So Im sold on the PX's, lighter shaft and a flight that suits my tastes! I was balooning the s300 a bit but the PX took off and stayed up nicely. I know this is all a little miniscule for someone of my handicap, but I really wanted to be confident with my decision. Thats what this whole test boiled down to.

I was thinking the 6.0, but as a poster said earlier, take less of a shaft than I ultimately need because I know I wont be swinging that hard on every shot... I'd rather have a less stiff shaft than one even just a little too stiff... That was very well said man and I appreciate your line of thinking...

So its all settled then!

MP 57 with Project X 5.5 shafts! Man I'm excited now! Just have to find a reasonably priced set on ebay now....

It seems odd to me that you would be balooning the heavier and stiffer shaft.

Hey Dub, I know it was weird to me too! Ive started really hitting down on the ball and I guess I was imparting waaaay too much backspin with the S300...

I dont have any numbers obviously but I think I had less backspin with the PX shafts...

I dunno, I think Im splitting hairs here. I do like the lighter weight shaft though in the PX, thats the selling point for me.

but looking on ebay I can get a nice set of 57's with s300's all day for around 330 bucks...

PX 5.5 not so much and 6.0 is pretty much non existent on ebay...

We'll see how this pans out....

The MP52's are nice irons too, got a chance to hit those today as well....

I'll take either one at this point if I can get the right shaft at the right price....

Im without an iron set right now and it sucks! Maybe I'll demo another set from watts just to hold me over

I just hate doing stuff like that.

Did you try the PX flighted or non flighted? Is there much of a difference between the two?

Non flighted, the 6.0 flighted would be absolutely perfect for me but cant find em anywhere.

Im thinking about just getting the s300 cuz i can get em much cheaper than the PX 6.0 or 5.5 if I can even find them on ebay.

The s300 is a dime a dozen on fleabay.

There is one set with PX 6.0 that I like but its an unknown seller and I just dont trust stuff like that, Im sure they are legit but I'd like to get em from a reputable seller, thats just me I guess...

Enough ranting now

Does anyone know what the main difference between the flighted and non flighted are? The PX 5.5 non flighted shows a low-mid trajectory and the PX 6.0 FLIGHTED also shows the same low-mid trajectory.

I'm going to a Mizuno Demo day to get a blended set to replace my 52's w/ PX 5.5s. Most likely going to sell them after i get my set.

If you're willing to wait a couple of weeks for the special order to come in from Miz i'm probably going to put them up on here and in Golfwrx first for around 350 for the set shipped. If no takers I'll throw it on ebay. Let me know and I can PM you as soon as I get the blended 58/68 i'm ordering this sat. (yes i'm a club ho )

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
