I want to pick up some new wedges but am not sure what loft to get.

My PW is at 44* (my Cleavland Niblick is taking up my spot for the a GW). So my question is how much gap between wedges is to much? Do I go 48 & 52 or can I bump it up to 50 & 56?

I have always played a 56 and 60, w/ the 60 as my go to club, so I am a little nervous about dropping my wedges all the way down to 48 & 52.

You should couple a 54 with the 48 instead of the 52. The 52 is usually used as a gap wedge and therefore most likely will not have enough bounce to use as a sand wedge while the 54 is usually a sand wedge by design.

Man, that's a strong loft on a PW; basically a 9 iron. If it were you I would go with a 50 and then maybe a 56. When you go with lofts that strong, it's going to be hard to fill in the gaps when you get down to those short yardages. My PW is 47 I believe and I have a 52 and 56.

You could also take a fairway wood out of your bag and add one more wedge to make up the gaps. Or maybe even take something out like your 3 iron which most people can't hit anyway. If your PW is a 44 loft, I'd assume your 3 iron is around 19? Which is like a 2 iron anyway so it would be even harder to hit.

I would go with a 52 and a 58 in your scenario (2 wedges), or you can ditch that 4 iron and go with 3 wedges (50, 54, 58).

How long have you had this mix for wedges? I ask, because some players have never picked up the gap wedge. They just practice a little extra with their pitching wedge, and carry a bunker/sand wedge and lob wedge as their other close-in tools.

With a 7.6 HDCP you are already a solid golfer, and was wondering what shots you hoped to get out of the extra wedge/new wedges.

How long have you had your current mix of wedges? The reason I ask is that some golfers have never picked up a GW, or dumped it once they tried it. Maybe you could just practice a little extra with the PW, and keep the bunker/sand wedge and LW as your other close-in tools.

With a 7.6 HDCP you're aready a solid golfer. I wasn't sure from OP what type of shots/capabilities you wanted from extra wedge(s).

Id go with a 50* and 56*. That would give you an even spacing between your wedges.

    • Day 39: did top golf for an hour with the family. It was fun but also not really like real golf at all. Also did some mirror work - working on the backswing stuff mostly.
    • Day 4, 1/2/26.  Played 18 today;  didn't get a chance to warm up (had I known the range was closed, I'd have hit balls at home first).  Played okay, 92 with three balls in the water.  It was raining for more than half the round and I didn't quite appreciate before today just how much I benefit from roll on both drives and approach shots.  I did not adapt well to this change until about hole 15, which is something I have to figure out.
    • Day 143 1-2 Arch wrist in downswing. Having a SLIGHT cup in the lead wrist at the top now. Only paused swings with some rehearsals before swinging at ball.  Used foam ball.
    • Day 459 - 2026-01-02 Had two guys on GEARS Hybrid, so I hopped on afterward (I'm going to do this a lot more often now). So… I've signed myself up for another month of backswing work in two ways: A little more extension of the trail elbow (got into the upper 90s) Less pelvis turn (low 50s).
    • Day 31 (2 Jan 26) - Usual Friday men’s group shootout - good day of shot making  as most shots were right on line to the target point.  Putter and green reads were solid with some great par saves and a really tricky birdie.
