curious what others use as a balll marker that would be considered not the norm.

I find that one of the dogs expired rabies tags works real well.

Interesting mark! Not sure mine's that usual but it's either an old 5 franc piece or an old half-crown piece.

I use a round metal ball mark that is red so that I can see it from a distance and a magnet attached to the marker so that I can carry it on my hat. My hat has a clip of a Mizuno mp33 iron made out of metal so the ball marker attaches to the clip.

i use one of my wifes thongs...

Your mark is in my line, can you move it a few feet left?

I'm using a toonie. It works well. Every time I mark the ball I laugh out lout a little bit. It really helps calm the nerves before a big putt.

A quarter, a tee stuck in the ground, a poker chip, a beer top, an actual ball marker, a leaf, a small rock... I can't remember everything I've used as a ball marker. Most often I stick a tee or my divot tool in the ground.

A valueless Angel coin. Don't know how I got it, but same size as a quarter, bronze color (I like), and angel is my wife's name.

Usually a random coin, whatever I have in my pocket. I have a little purple plastic ball marker that I keep in my bag that I fall back to if I don't happen to have change.

I use an Italian 500 Lira bimetal coin from 1983 (replaced by the Euro). It fits in (and sticks to) my magnatized divot repair tool. A very beautiful and interesting coin, as well as having two colors, gold and silver, the 500 Lira was the first bimetal coin minted in the world.

I use a fake poker chip. Big enough not to be lost and to be seen by everyone on the green, heavy enough not to be moved by the wind and round enough not to eat through my pocket. Been using that for a couple of years and will not change!

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
