I am thinking to change out my old golflogix gps for a new more up to date model.

The golflogix that i currently have has been a super trooper! It has been sunk in water, run over with a cart, thrown, dropped, lost and found, left outside. the only thing that has broken is the enter button so i haven't been able to measure my distance. Its been a good tool for me.

I don't like that every so many month's I have to re-up a 25$ subscription fee.

plus i would like to try another GPS - another toy :) guess its a guy thing.

I have been looking around the net and like the looks of the Callaway uPro Golf GPS.

any feed back on the upro - or what ever you use and why?

The upro is pretty nice my buddy has it and he loves it. Then again based on your track record with the golflogix it's going to have a short life because it's not built that tough.

if it aint broke dont fix it

I agree, but his is "broke". Ha ha... I would see if they will fix it. Also, the new units are only $199 at Amazon. I love this device and care not for the children toy complicated versions I have seen elsewhere. I just need to see the yardage and basic info. I think simpler is better when it comes to golf GPS. However, I can appreciate you wanting something new. It is indeed a guy thing. But the grass is not always greener...

I use the SkyCaddie SG5. Had it for a good while now. It's been great, I've dropped it a few time but it works great. The uPro looks good, and interesting, but too bad my SG5 is still in great condition *THROWN IN POND*, oops, seems to have slipped from my hands and fallen into the pond 10 yards away. Haha, but seriously the Callaway's uPro and even OnPar's Touch Screen GPS looks good. But looks are all I'm going by cause I haven't had the pleasure to use one. Some older guys that go golfing at my course have the uPro, they say it's great and it has nice functionality. Haven't bumped into anyone with an OnPar though...

Since we are talking GPS units of all flavors I'd like to know people's opinion on the Golf Buddy brand. I see Golfsmith has their Golf Buddy Plus for $199.99 marked down from $349.99. Amazon.com had about 25 reviews mostly positive. No annual fee which is nice.

I assume all brands (other than Skycaddie, since they manually map courses) all use the same satellites to calculate distances?

Speaking of Amazon, go read the 346 four star reviews on the Golf Logix unit that is now $199 with free shipping. Great place to shop no doubt. Link below...

Dan funny you mention that. I had seen that earlier why researching the Golf Buddy Plus. Looks like the Garmin/GolfLogiz GPS-8 has gone to the top of my list. Just too difficult to find good info on the Golf Buddies. And from what I read in the very few reviews I found, their Customer Support is sub-par and that is if you even can get ahold of someone that speaks English.

So I was just at Golf Galaxy and they have the Upro on sale for $299 and it says there is a $100 rebate on it. they are out of stock in the store
So I went onto golfgalaxy.com just now and the upro is still listed for $399.
Does anybody know if you can still take the rebate if you buy it for $299 in the store ?
if so $200 for the Upro seems like a sweet deal.

I printed off the rebate restrictions and did not see any limitations as far as purchasing it on sale.

Golf Galaxy had the instant rebate, so you cannot get another 100 off.

I should be getting my Onpar GPS 2morrow, no fees at all, tracks all distances, and all stats(gir ,fairway, avg distance per club), then it surgest what club you should use for each shot based on your averages. The only bad thing about it is the lack of courses, but it has all the ones near me.

I hope you have better luck with it than I did. I was never able to complete a round without it locking up.

I love the skycaddie. But of course the only drawback is that I have to pay the annual fee. Wish they would lose that cause I'm not aware of any other companies charging yearly. I could def be wrong about that though.

Are you sure? If I go onto Discountgolf.com (which is an authorized Callaway dealer) their cart price is $299. Then shouldn't I be able to just download the rebate form and mail it to Callaway showing proof of purchase to get the $100 back making it $199 ?

I am positive that if you buy the upro for 300, the it was discounted instantly, meaning the dealer took the rebate and gave you instant savings. Not dealer right now will sell the upro for 300 without themselves getting the rebate, unless it is the go. But try if you want they might make a mistake and give a double rebate.

I love the SkyCaddie as well, I don't mind the subscription fee. I have the 2.5 so it's small, monochrome, and doesn't have fancy graphics or real pictures but I just need yardages. I'm going to play this thing as long as it lasts.
