Went with the 5.5s as I had intended because my previous irons had 6.0s in them and they were a tad too stiff for me.

I used to play 6.0 on my last set but now 5.5 . Although the club fitter recommended me 6.0 but i ask him to fit 5.5 for me.

Most of us are trying to play flex that are too stiff to our game, i find it is easier to play less stiff. By the way, i am hitting my 7 Iron 165Y or 150M .
What I Play:
913D3 9.5°Diamana Kai'li 70 Stiff  "C3" | 910F 15°, Diamana Kai'li 80 Stiff "D2" | 910H 19°,  Diamana Kai'li for Titleist 85 Hybrid Stiff | Titleist 714 AP2 4 to P Aerotech Steelfiber i110 S | SM4 Vokey 50.12, 54.14 & SM5 60.11K| 34" Edel Umpqua + 40g Counter Weight

I switched from those shafts to the Nippon S and they are very different shafts. I personally think playing a heavy shaft like that will kill your distance. It did for me. I played the DGSL s300 in my previous irons (Cleveland TA5), then switched to the DG S300 in Mizuno MP60 and I lost about a club. I had those for a year and really could only fly my 7 right around 150 when before this I was flying a 7 over 160.

I then switched to the Titleist below and huge difference. I got my distance back, hitting it so much higher, making more birdies.

I think you would be making a huge mistake in getting a unforgiving iron. I would take a look at what I got, nice blend, discontinued, get them cheap or maybe Mizuno MX 25 or 23s. I know you are working on getting better but why get an iron that makes you worse. It happened to me and cost me some money and my handicap went up 3 points in a year. Just because you practice doesn't make you hit the center of the club hobitually. That is what it takes to play a club like those titleist you are looking at.

Those are some great irons. A really quality manufacturer that are unknown by most. I was looking into them but couldn't afford new clubs.

Not the big names like the rest , but the feel of the club is great !

i play the dgs300 in my 710 AP2. lots of people say the trajectory is lower than in other irons but when i hit them at the driving range every iron was flying higher than when i hit the 08 AP2s with Project X 5.5. My distance wasn't affected much at all. I could hit my 7 iron about 150 yards but then didn't see much of a difference in distance between the 6 to 4 iron (i couldn't hit my longer irons at all that day). the temperature out here is 5 degrees celcius so i will gain about 20 yards when the temperatures gets back to 20/25 degrees. i'm a sophomore in high school so i'm not very powerful either. it seems you're quite similar to me distance wise so i think u could play the dgs300. i'd suggest you hit the irons to see if you lose a lot of distance.

Going to the softer shaft has me hitting more hooks.

I'm now working on delaying the release of my hands a little to compensate. Not sure on my 7 iron distance with the new sticks yet, but yesterday I smoothed a 8 iron about 3 paces off the back of a green that measured 163Y to the back edge (skycaddie). I'm guessing maybe 170-175? with a 7i which would be about 4 yards or so longer than my old S57s with DG S400s in them.

DG's spines are all over the place, subtle to very pronouned, so I'd suggest spining them before putting them back into the heads--just my .02 cents.

LOL, its not about feel, its about dispersion; and "yes" spined shafts with a consistant ball striker will yeild a tighter dispersion. "It doesn't matter how far you hit it, its how well." Well almost, its about how many strokes it takes to get the ball it in the cup.

.02 cents AKA IMO.

Any opinion worth posting is probably wort more than 2 one hundreths of a cent. Heck, it might even be worth as much as 2 cents?!?!

i think playing reg flex makes me feel more relax on courses.

Too heavy or stiff shafts made my left elbow tired..

i am not a big hitter, 6 iron goes only 185 yards, currently playing with ap2 project x 5.0, little higher ball flight then i want, but the dispersion is very tight.

so play what makes you feel good and comfortable.

just my 0.02 cent.

185 w/ a 6 iron is almost tour average... your dispersion is tight with a px 5.0 and that 6-iron distance? I'm surprised

That's huge distance for an iron imho. Very few of the guys I play with who hit it a long way, hit a 6 that far, and they all play stiff or X.

What are you so surprised with? Tiger can hit his 8 iron 179 yards. 6 iron with 185 yard is normal for my handicap. I actually should use px 5.5, like DG S300, but I chose 5.0 coz I don't want to swing a too heavy club. As I mention, 5.0 gave me a higher ball flight but I don't mind,I hit the 5.5 with the same distance with 5.0, just higher ball flight. So can you give me some points that what made u surprised?

Antony kim can hit his driver 320+ yards,my 6 irons is not that huge.many guys on this forum can hit that far or further. My driver and woods are with stiff,I just chose to use lighter shaft for my iron, which gave me a higher ball flight.

    • Played Musgrove Mill today. 72.3/155. +9 for 15 official holes as 2 holes are closed, and the par 5 16th plays as a converted par 3. We played the first three holes over to finish 18, and parred 1 and2 amped bogeyed 3. The good: hit every fairway. 1 less than normal for the converted par 3, but the second time I have done that this year. My sand wedge approach on 10 after a monster drive hit the pin in the back left corner hit he pin and spun away to 9’, and I missed the putt.   The great: hit 8 GIR and 7 were inside 10’. Needs work: Missed every birdie putt. No lip-outs. Just struggled on fast greens. Three-putted the par-5 9th with the pin on the back tier and jut missed hitting my approach to the proper level and it spun all the way to the front of the green.
