Well last Friday, I was sitting at a 17.5 handicap, then went out and shot a new record low 85. Felt great and encouraged me to talk a lot of crap to my 7 handicap buddy in our skins match the day after Thanksgiving. Well the skins match was 2 days ago, Friday, and I shot a 91 and only lost by 3 skins. $5 loss isn't too bad when we played straight up shot for shot. Well my girlfriend and her mom went shopping today and I decided to go play. I was pissed when I got to the course because they raised their prices by $20. They also dont have a break in the morning price until 2pm....so basically u couldnt finish the round. I took lots of pictures of all the gators that were sunbathing in the nice Tampa weather. Well I totaled my front 9 at a 45 and just kinda shrugged it off. Then I drove the green on 10, 270yrd short cut over the lake instead of taking the dogleg. 2 putted for birdie....then got an 8 on the next par 4. Finished out 17 and 18 with birdies and totaled the card. Came out with a 39 on the back. First time under 40. So 84, new low round. Went from a 17.5 to a 17.1, to a 16.4, and today it says with the next revision Ill be at a 15.5...super pumped.

Cliff notes:
Shot a new low 85
Only lost $5 in a skins match to much better player
Shot new low again 84

When your handicap is mid-teens, it sure is fun to shoot a couple good rounds to knock some strokes off. I was at that point early this summer and really enjoyed it.

Have fun with your new success and good luck!

So, by my calculations, you'll be a single digit handicap in 27 days. Nice! :-p

Nothing too different. Just worked on my putting a ton lately. Went from 34-35 putts a round to 28 and 30. Also really tried to not swing out of my shoes on my drives and sacrifice the extra 30 yards for a straight drive.

So, by my calculations, you'll be a single digit handicap in 27 days. Nice! :-p

I WISH!!!

I played yesterday and shot almost the exact same thing. I shot a 45 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine to set my low at 85.

Career Bests:

9 Holes--37 @ The Fairways at Arrowhead-Front(+2)

18 Holes--80 @ Carroll Meadows Golf Course(+9)

Home Course:

1) The Fairways at Arrowhead

2) Mayfair Country Club

Congrats man! I figured my front 9 score on the 12th hole and my reaction was kinda, blah same ole. "gonna shoot another 90" Then I just went off. Hit 3 290+ drives with some wind and that made 2 puttin for par much easier.

So, with the better scoring showing up for a few games, what can you say that has gotten better for your game, where are you striking better or actually hitting what your visualizing? Is your putting better, or are you hitting better chips giving your whole game a better putt count?

---> There are a few things that I notice in my game

1st > How many of the greens am I reaching with a shot at Birdie?

2nd > At the end of my round, am I putting more or less than 36 puts?

3rd >How good was my chipping

4th > Finally did I drive in the Fairway and How did I strike my drives?

I'm around where you were and sometimes I really don't get upset about a shot if I knew I struck that ball well, direction can be fixed if i'm striking the ball well and hitting it where I was setup for (actually aimed wrong) Happens alot with my game... Its those great shots every couple holes that keep me coming back...

Congrats,
I can kinda relate...I was up in the bay area on turkey day and played at the Half Moon Bay Links. Played the Ocean Course 2 days in a row.
Shot a 97 and a 96 with 3 brides. Well coming from San Diego wind isn't something I can deal with too well.

    • I'll try to post a bit more here as the season moves on.  Yesterday was my first "referee gig" this year, the first of a two-day event for juniors.  No real unusual rulings, but a couple of slightly complicated situations with two consecutive drops.  There's a hole with a Red Penalty Area down the right, with a cart path running parallel.  On a couple of occasions a player had to take Penalty Area relief.  Two clublengths from the point of entry required dropping no further left than the center of the cart path.   Once that relief procedure was completed, he took relief from the cart path.  Due to the relatively small distance between the path and the PA, the Nearest Point of Complete Relief was to the "fairway side" of the path.  I made the Player consider a drop to the PA side, with the player's feet clear of the path (i.e. complete relief from interference), but that would have put the drop in the Penalty Area, which isn't acceptable. Something which I now see as common, this 36-hole event is defined as four 9-hole stipulated rounds.  This is done so that, if bad weather sets in, there can be legitimate results if everyone has completed at least 9 holes.
