I would like my putter to be 1-2 degrees flatter, and possibly with a hair more loft. I like a "forward press" putting stroke, but it feels like my current putter has too little loft when I try that.

Is this something a place like GolfSmith or Golf Galaxy could easily (and reliably) do? Or should I just send it back to the manufacturer (Scott Cameron)?

My main reason for wanting to use a local place is so I can easily get it changed again if isn't to my liking. Sending it off to Scott takes 20 days.. and if I have to do it more than once I'm going to be aggravated.

I've had the lie of my irons adjusted at local places without any problems... I'm just not sure how they'd do on adjusting the loft of a putter.

i would see no problem with that that. i would go ask the shop but i'm pretty sure they'll adjust the lie quite easily. not sure about loft but i'd expect it to be the same

I don't know if your lol meant you were joking or not, but it's easy. I adjusted a Yes petter once. The angle was bent somehow too upright. I clamped it in a vise with rubber protectors and banged it with a rubber mallet.

Mind you, I have no idea what the actual lie angle is on that putter, but it worked for me when I used it.

Actually, it's too bad you don't own a "Scott Cameron". Those were his early tour only, hand-made customs, worth $$$$$ today, lol!

This fall, I was missing putts crazy. For total of 10 rounds, there were only two 3 putts but damned ball didn't dropped from anything longer than 6 feet. I was informed by my playing partner(s) that my ball jumps at impact significantly. My stroke hasn't changed at all for 20 years except I changed putter's grip to Tiger Shark's jumbo grip (not ultra jumbo).

So I went to Golf Galaxy to check it out. (they have Putter Fitting by Maltby certified.../emoticons/wink.png" title="Wink"/> ). So they adjusted it to 4 degree and changed the grip back to original Pingman grip.

And then.... ball does roll well. For next few rounds, I was making less than 31 putts.

If you go to http://www.ralphmaltby.com/294 , you will find great information for putting fitting.

Not sure what area of the state you are in, but David Orr is a near-famous instructor in Buies Creek,NC. He also runs the professional golf management program at Campbell University. Awesome guy. I went to college there myself (15 years back) and this June went and spent a half day with David. 1.5 hours on the full swing, 2.5 or so on putting. He put me on the SAM putting lab to see what I was doing wrong and helped me correct much of it. Spent time reading greens and making actual putts. He also adjusted my Rife Antigua lie angle. He is a top shelf instructor. I am going back in Jan myself. Visit his website www.orrgolf.com and feel free to PM me for more info. I have been playing for 20 years and this was the best money I have spent on my golf game yet. Can't recommend him highly enough.

I'm 5'8' and I had my Taylor Made cut to 33 inches so that my arms are straight down the putter and my eyes are over the ball. I got that work done at Golf Galaxy.

I actually know this thread very well, I had my Scotty Cameron bent by Golf Galaxy just a couple days ago. It cost $5 for it to be bent from 71* to around 68.5*, the toe of my putter was too high originally. If you have a forward pressing stroke, I would go no lower than 4* of loft, but I think your SC is 4* stock.

I'm not sure why putters are manufactured at 71* lie, it seems as though this standard is too much. Every putter I have putted with or have seen people putt with, with a stock lie, the toe is always sticking up way too high.

BE CAREFUL though, the guy who bent mine said that the SC's bend like butter. He said though he has never snapped one, he has seen a few snapped while trying to bend them. But hey, I guess if you want a new one off the rack then tell them to bend it about 10*

Personally, I wouldn't trust a golf retail store to do it, just my opinion. Any local clubbuilder or a good pro at a local club should be able to do that for you. Again, just my gut instinct.

I had my local shop do it and it came out fine (Ping Iwi Anser). Most good shops have the measuring equipment and bending equipment.

Went to a Golf Galaxy demo day this spring, and won a putter fitting. The fitter watched me hit some putts, and made some adjustments.
As a result:
+ 2* loft
+ 1* more upright (was missing them to left)
- 1" off the shaft (I had been wanting to do this anyway)
+ 4 on swingweight (Had been C9, went to D3) D4 to D6 was suggested weight, was D3 felt just right.

As a result, I doubled number of 5-to-10-footers I was making.

New consideration: I have been using a straight-back / straight-forward putting stroke since forever. But, I may try an arc stroke this spring.

Focus, connect and follow through!
