Now ahead of time I am already aware of my tendency to overdo it on the backswing... but don't hold anything back.

Now ahead of time I am already aware of my tendency to overdo it on the backswing... but don't hold anything back.

I just looked at the two face-on views. Here's what's worth noting (to me in a quick look anyway):

1) You do a nice job of finishing tall. I really like the way your legs are extended in the last shot. You could be a bit more forward but that's neither here nor there for now. 2) I like how long you stay square. You don't spin your hips out too early. Now the main thing I don't like is that your head moves all over the place. It goes back with your backswing, then forward at the top of the backswing, and from there it falls backwards. This leads to you having to scoop and flip and chicken-wing it as seen in the fourth photo. Keep your head in the same spot. Two things you can do to try to accomplish this. One is to straighten your right arm sooner. If your right arm stays bent the only way you can get back to the ball is to lean backwards and let the right side of your body sag or you'll swing a foot over the ball. Or, maybe it's just that your head moves back - put it against a wall or have someone hold your hat while you make some slow-motion swings. Resist moving the head - up, down, left, or right until after impact.

Do you usually not ground your Driver?

Hey man, I really like the way you just go right into your swing. You definitely don't waste any time, or get all tense standing over the ball too long. I'm a pretty quick player myself, so I love playing with other people who just step up and hit it.

Listen to what Isac says, he can see things in your swing most of us can't. Aside from the head movement and balance issue, it looks like you quit on your swing before you get to a finish position (maybe a reaction to the other issues?). I guess the common advice is to practice swinging through and holding that finish position.

Have you worked on the things Iacas suggested? I think you'll be hard-pressed to find a more detailed analysis than his here, unless you want to send your video to TMO in The New Swing Check thread.

yeah I practiced some in my living room... practiced swinging all the way through (to get rid of the chicken wing) and tried to keep my head still. Also, from the videos and swinging around I think I might need to keep my chin elevated? I can't get my arms to clear my body with my chin down that far. I'll take it to the range eventually, unfortunately it's winter in Indiana so those opportunities may be slim to none.

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
