Haha, I'm tempted to try it as well, but I'm just so injury prone (I missed all of last season with a back injury May-October) that it's probably a really bad idea at this point.

However, I did just buy some no-friction tees the other day. I won't be golfing until mid-March at the earliest, so it's a little bit early to be obsessing about golf, but I just couldn't help myself. Ugh, it's gonna be a loooooong winter.

I guess I've not been paying much attention lately to what's happening in the golf world. I just found out about this guy from a post on this forum. I have now decided that this is the best pure golf swing of all time, imo . It brings together the best aspects of every great swing I have admired in full force.. Davis Love, Sam Sneed, John Daly, Tiger Woods, Nicklaus... Plus he's not a big guy.. my height, 5 10, and not muscled out at all. Pure talent married to perfect tecnique. Purity. Granted, his clubhead goes way past parallel, but many of the great swingers did/do that. Snead swore by it. Jones, Nicklaus, Couples, Mickelson.. there's nothing wrong with that, if you don't lose anything in the process.. He is completely centered, nothing collapses at all, left arm straight and firm..That's what bugged me (the left arm bending) about Daly's swing, and, dare I say it, even Couples. And there's no loop in the swing. It's so simple, albeit ultra long. No looseness..no leaks.. just pure energy.. fully maxed out. I think I'm in love. (With his swing, that is).

Eh. It's a swing built for distance with a driver. There's a reason he's not playing PGA Tour events.

I think we can learn a lot of things from the long-drive guys. Control and scoring aren't among those things.

Oh, I don't know. I think these guys could play the Tour if they were given three chances for every shot.

ok.. i've been scrutinizing his swing more and more obsessively. It's friggin amazing. That sound when he hits the ball. It's unearthly.

And I'm seeing more and more stuff ( lordey lordey I see tha light). I first thought those points that Sellinger was making (in the first pinnacle distance team video) about sadlowski's hockey background were just fluff/ hype... but now I'm starting to think otherwise... Look again at the part in that vid where Sadlowsky takes a slew of those practice swings in a row.. his lower body, particularly his left leg, barely loses it's position. Compare that, say, to a Jones style swing, or even worse, to someone like me (video not included) who really over turns the hips and lets the left leg turn and collapse on the backswing...

Ok..so that's the hockey connection. At least that's how I see it. Apologies to Sellinger. It's all about the lower body stability. In hockey-- and I don't play it but I can skate and I can image what it must be like-- you just can't overturn your hips or you'll fall down. You need a ton of stability there to just stay upright and skating. Just check this out..

Notice that the forward leg doesn't lose it's position at all . That's what I'm talking about. This is one of the things I believe that Sadlowski uses, in addition to insane amounts of raw talent, of course.

So this is what I am obsessing on now.. Plus I need to lower my hands at address.. I was reaching way too much. But that's another story. Amazing how much you can learn from videoing your swing.. and looking at other's swings.. what a great tool video is!!

By the way.. fred couples also really stabilizes his lower body in favor of a big hip turn, and I've always loved his swing.

Ok.. so I used to practice this drill on the range that I got from nicklaus, where I would take a wide stance, with a five iron and swing completely flat footed from start to finish, and I would keep my toes lifted up the whole time -- I was combining it with a very old Alex Morrison technique that I'm sure many of you are familiar with and in fact, I'm pretty sure nicklaus did this addition as well because morrison taught grout who taught nicklaus. ... Anyway.. this drill felt bizarre, but completely stabilized my lower body, and I used to hit great shots on the range with it, but then I would think.. ok that's fine, its a drill, and now I'll go back to my regular swing.. duoi... I can see from my videos now that I am way too loose in the lower body.

Alright.. bear in mind I haven't tried to make any of these changes yet.. so wish me luck & hope that I don't end up in the hospital...

dont know what video youre watching but sadlowski turns his hips considerably on the backswing, as well as straightens his right leg, and increases the flex in his left knee when he swingsl.

Ok.. ok.. I hear what you're saying. But just bear with me.. i'm not

completely insane... at least not yet, i don't think.. first of all, here is the vid.. ok.. now go forward in the vid to time 3:31 (about 2/3rds way through). He takes 3 'continuous' practice swings, going back and forth and then says "now it's just lowering body and letting the ball get in the way of that...". Ok.. now, replay the practice swings over and over, and take a real good look at what his left leg is doing. The answer.. not a hell of a lot. Esp when you consider the length of his backswing, which is ginormous, even in these practice swings. Here's my point, and something that I'm coming more and more to grips with in golf. The golf swing is such a crazy animal. A lot of times, what you see happening in a great swing is a function not of someone trying to do something, but rather of someone actively trying not to do it, to actually prevent it from happening.. i.e. resisting it to the max. So, what I contend is, he is instinctively, probably to a large extent because of his hockey playing, staying ultra stable in his legs, esp the left, while taking as huge a cut as possible. Yes, there is give in the leg.. but that is just happening, whereas the active mechanics of his swing is resisting that. And Im sure he doesnt even give this much thought because it's just so completely ingrained. Just love his swing....... By the way, everything I did on the range today worked in spades, and was exactly what my swing needed. I'm a happy camper. I think most of this ranting and raving is mainly for my own ears to hear and really applies primarily to me, myself and I. But maybe it will help some other poor slob out there too.. It's just that so much of my golf game was just way too "loose" i am finding more and more these days...
