Alright here's the story... The Friday before Columbus Day... I am driving along down the road at 80 miles an hour... hydroplane flip my car... I got a steel knee cap after tearing my MCL and messing up my lower legs... I also broke my pelvis in four places... seven screws... I spent almost three months in a wheelchair couldn't even do much... I'm walking with two canes and a brace and by the end of next month I should be down to one... Nice 23rd birthday present...

They say I will golf again... my pro career is probably shot... but heck I could make it back... Ben Hogan did...

I might be a club fitter... but I ain't got anything in my shop that i can think to build that will get me back golfing... so the question is... any ideas? shaft suggestions, club suggestions, grip suggestions... anything would be helpful... so higher handicappers probably would have the same insight as a pro on this one...

Thanks in advance...

Glad to see that you are recovering well! I am not sure of the question you are asking. Which clubs would be best for you? If so, I have no idea. I would say since you are a + handicapper that, even though you were in an accident, you should still mentally be able to know how to play the game and how to strike a golf ball. That said, I think it all depends how you rehab. If you are slower at recovering, you may want a shaft with less flex. I think there are too many variable here to answer your question accurately. You may be able to use the set you have now, it just all depends on how you recover. Sorry I couldn't be much more help, but I am glad to see you are ok.

I think a long putter or a belly putter will help lessen the stress on your pelvis while putting. The putting green will be a good place to restart your golfing life. All the best with your continued recovery.

I too am glad you are making a recovery and have not given up this wonderful sport. Your handicap of +3.5 clearly speaks for itself and from your signature, I can definitely see that you play some very nice sticks. You might consider a setup with some weaker shafts until you get your strength and club head speed back.

There are more important things in life than golf. Take care of yourself and get back on the course when you can.

As the survivor of a serious motorcycle wreck many years ago, you are months away from golf. Take care of your injuries, and regain your muscle tone and strength, as this is going to be a long, tough task. When you are cleared by the doctors, start with the short game, and work your way up, realizing that it may take more time than you would like. I remember how tough it is to wait for things when you are 23, but this is a process that you can not rush. Be patient, and be well..

I'm three years back from a severe back injury that had me learning to walk for almost a year . I was told I would never swing a club again, but hey, you're never supposed to tell a former Jarhead that he can't do something... ;)

At that time, it had been over 6 years since the injury.

Anyway, what I did early on was pitch the blades for something more forgiving to a less than perfect swing, and stuffed some regular flex graphite shafts in them so I could get at least some marginal club head speed. I had to tweak everything upright and a little longer as I can no longer bend over as much as before. I was pretty much doing just arm swings at first, and it was ugly, but hey, at least I was playing again! I'm now to the point that I can reasonably turn my upper body now, but still cannot turn (maybe not ever?) like I used to, and am subject to pain in my back/right hip/right knee during play, but Advil works wonders! :D

I play every week, walk never ride, and enjoy every outing as best I can. The most frustrating thing for me was that my brain remembers how to make the shots I used to, but my body is like "you wanna do what?" But then I was never at your skill level either. I never managed to qualify for the Mid, even though I tried on many occasions. Now I'm just a weekend hack who's glad to be swinging again.

I wish you well in your recovery.
