Alright guys, i got some new grips, and im loving them. The grips are Lamkin Crossline Tour Grip .580s and compared to my midsized grips they feel great, the only issue i have is their tearing up my hads. I know that playing with them will smooth them out a bit, but they seem to be a little ruff right now, is there anything you guys do when you first get grips? ive heard of people using sandpaper on the corded grips but i was wondering if their is a way to help them out a little.

I had a similar issue, and changed to Winn Xi7s. I never looked back. They are firm enough to have good feel, yet are very soft. The only negative to them is the wear a little quicker; you may have to change your most used clubs once a season with them.

i just got these grips so changing them probably wont happen. I love the grip, but the insets in the rubber is still very rigged so im looking for a way to wear them in quicker then just hitting them alot.

I absolutely love my winn grips... Xi7's are the best thing going in my opinion. I am curious what the new Winnlites feel like though. I understand Winn is not for everyone, but I would never go back to a tour velvet or cord grip.

yeah winn is not for everyone. They wear very quick. New they are tremendous grips. Well worn, watch out, going to be slick! I have a feeling those winnlites are so thin that they are going to wear out even quicker than normal winns, but i haven't had a chance to take a look at them yet.

i was looking at winlites but their like 26gm's or something.. will throw the swing weight off i think, but never actually saw them. i just wana know how to take some of the bight off of these.

I wouldn't sand them, i do that to cord grips when they become too slick. I think the only way really is to sort of buy a glove and tough it out. Maybe you could buy some of the Gorilla Grip enhancer stuff they sell. That might make it tacky enough so your hands don't have to dig into the glove as much. That's really all that I can think of.

Wear two gloves for a while. I regriped my Titleists with Winn V17 DSi grips and I love them, soft and sticky. Grips are cheap.

soft hands? I've got Golf Pride Tour Velvet Round grips on my clubs. Just switched from Golf Pride New Decade MCC Cord Blue grips. Uhm, wow, I really don't know what to say. Two gloves could be your solution. Next time maybe try some softer grips, something without cord. Go with Winn, only downside is they don't last too long, but they are great. I'm looking at trying Lamkin's new NDUR grips. Yeah, uhm, no offense dood, but man up I guess, I've never heard something like this before. Try wearing two gloves for the mean time.

Yeah to be honest, it the grips are ripping up your hands, try something else. I know you just put them on and don't want to spend even more money, but its better than going to the course with your hands beat to hell. Try something like a winn or go with the classic tour velvet. I switched back to the velvets after years of winn and couldn't be happier. They are super soft, feel great and don't wear like a winn. Just a suggestion.

Im having the opposite problem.. new grips are nice and just need some time to wear in, but then again, give your hands some time to build up some calluses.. just keep hitting up that range

To the OP... I dont understand your post... you say you love the grips but they hurt your hands. That's like saying you love walking barefoot on hot coals but it hurts the bottom of your feet. Chalk it up and get new grips.

Two things.

First, Winn grips are terrible if you play a lot. For tour pros who get them for free, and people who don't play that much, they are fine. For me, they feel wonderful, but last as long as POGs and the Macarena. I take at least 120 full swings a day, about 6 days a week. Winn grips might last me 3 months. They are also more than twice as much as Lamkins, and regripping can cost over a hundred dollars. Even if you change your own grips, they cost about $7 a piece.

Tour velvets last me maybe 9 months. The Lamkins last a long time, over a year, maybe more. I play the same grips you (the OP) do and also love them, but they do tend to be fairly hard on the hands. All you need to do is get used to them, it goes away very quickly. You'll build callouses.

I agree that they wear out quickly Shanks, but after the initial regripping; you will only be regripping individual clubs on an as needed basis. Most likely then it will be your shorter irons and wedges. Not all of them will wear out at the same time. For someone who plays a couple of rounds per week they work just fine. I've been playing them for about 5mo. and have only regripped my PW. My SW and LW will need them soon, but the comfort of the grips is worth it. In the big picture of what we spend on golf and equipment, $50-100 a yr for grips is not a drop in the bucket. Hell a dozen premium balls is $40-50.

Ha, no way. I buy good condition used golf balls, ProV1s are about $0.65 a peice in like new condition ($0.20 for older ones with worn covers). I spend $2.50 per grip, and change them once every year at the most. Golf doesn't have to cost a fortune, and down here, there's so much demand that competition drives prices down. I got most of my clubs for a pittance as well.

    • Day 332: worked on my grip while watching pasta boil. Then did some mirror work later at night.
    • You start pushing forward at P2. You start visibly moving forward at P3. Waiting until the top is way too late, yeah.
    • 100%. I've been guilty my entire time golfing of trying to fit everything imaginable into the .25 second downswing. Sometimes I think it's partly influenced by my backswing length and that if things were slightly longer on the way back, they'd be better synced up on the way down. I also kind of lack a transition. Was doing the practice swing drill today a decent bit where I was feeling like as the club got to the top, the feel of the weight was shifting me forward and initiating the fall into the lead leg. I loved this drill before for this reason and because I need to stop thinking of the golf swing as backswing and downswing.
    • The bold is very late.
    • Angle isn't perfect. Just found my TST alignment stick, so will make sure video angles are better in future videos. Focus right now is lower body and lower body only. If I make a single post here for the foreseeable future about anything NOT lower body focused, I need to be slapped (I will make an occasional note on unrelated stuff I might be seeing). It's not perfect by any means, but there is a decent bit I like about this swing. Lower body is definitely better than it was pre-TST meetup instruction. There are some things that are tough to see I think I'm doing better like where pressure is going into the trail foot and keeping that trail hip internally rotated. Need to keep feeling those. I think I do my best work when the trail leg keeps its flex on the backswing or at most loses a degree. Keeping the flex (but obviously not adding any) seems to help feel like I'm loading the right glute and to keep the hip internally rotated. Not totally sold on this though. I think my work on adding flow during the TST COVID-19 lessons really helped even though its been quite some time. Shift -> rotate -> shift -> rotate. I just need more out of my hips. It's not drastic, but it's everything. I think it will help sync up a lot regarding my swing and more power to boot. Unrelated note: I hate my negative spine angle.
