I recently took my i15 4 iron back to the pro shop I got them from as the the Ping grip was not on straight, with the grip straight in my hands (Ping logo centre front) the head was about 3 degrees open.

On looking at it the pro noticed that the shaft was bent in the upper 3rd, almost twisted, so it has gone back to Ping for a new shaft and grip (no cost as these have only been used a few times since I got them and they could see I have not wrapped it around a tree)

Now I checked all the clubs when I got them and did not notice the 4 iron. The pro checked all the rest of the set 5-PW and all the sahfts are fine, all the grips are slightly off at address (just left of center) but not as bad as the 4 iron.

So my silly question is, could cold (leaving them in a car or garage) or heat (having them in the bedroom near a radiator) have bent/twisted the shafts?

It depends on the car / shaft combo. If it's a stock PING shaft and a Ford - the 4 iron is gonna twist every time. You'd probably be OK with a Honda.

If it's cold outside and your leaving your clubs in the garage, yes sometime the shafts will 'pit' and not look the way they should. But from it sounds like, it you unfortunately just bought a set with a bum shaft. It happens, there are going to be slightly dented shafts that make it through assembly because like you said, its hard to notice.

I would say the chance of that happening is 0.0000000000000000001%.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Well I don't keep them in the garage, just in the boot of my car, but recently in the house (bedroom next to radiator) as I did not want them in the car whilst working away.

I would say the chance of that happening is 0.0000000000000000001%.

Cheers, that's what I hoped and new it was a silly question but had to ask :)

To be fair I am pissed that the rest of the grips are not straight, but don't want to be without the clubs for a few weeks when it is not really worth it.

    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
