My running sentence: I hate snow but it was all fine and dandy when the kids were little and we'd go out and play in it and I was much younger and felt invincible and could shovel snow all damn day long but now I'm older and an empty-nester and would much rather play golf on a beautiful green course surrounded in warmth. *sigh*

Today I couldn't focus at all. We rarely get any sort of ice, snow, anything here, and yesterday we got tons of ice in the trees. All day today the only thing I could hear: CRACKLE BLAHH DON'T MESS UP. The trees were mocking me with their thermal expansion. >:(

I think I got mild frostbite today playin in the wind and cold in jax....where the hell is spring. Its not supposed to stay this cold in FL.

Does Hawaii really have golf 365, or near to it? I may have to give it more consideration in my job search next year.

except for rain days... and even then you can usually find a dry part of the island. Got rained out in Kaneohe, and Honolulu Sat morn...kept heading west.. dry and cloudy at Barbers Point... it was 78 degrees today..

That being said SoCal has 365 golf as well, and there you can get to other climates by hoping in a car. I have been here on Oahu for 3 years and I am starting to get some serious island fever.. I will be happy when I move this summer... ask me how I feel again 11 months from now though :)

Like you don't have Golf 365 in Westwood, CA????

Thanks for the info. Where are you moving to? And I'll feel silly for asking, but what's island fever?

I have golf probably 350/yr in Westwood (Los Angeles). When it rains, it pours, and generally keeps us off day of and one drying day. The other catch is that I'm in school, and won't necessarily (and hopefully won't) work in Los Angeles when I graduate. If there are places outside of CA, AZ, and FL where near 365 is possible, they'll be included in the search.

Maybe I should start a new thread, since I'm taking us off the Hawaiian topic, but I want to ask: how bad are the worst days in Oregon, and how frequent are they?

Island fever comes from only having 112 miles of continuous road on this island. I have ridden my bicycle around it. I have all but given up on the motorcycle riding.. I mean how many times can you ride either clockwise or counter clockwise around the same roads? The key to being happy in HI is embracing the ocean. I kayak, scuba, surf, fish, but even still, I need to be able to get in my truck, or on my motorcycle, and go for 6,,, 7 hours... that is island fever. They say if you can make it 5 years here, you never want to leave.. I will never make it 5 years :)

So, the golf isn't enough? How good is it? How affordable, how many courses, quality, etc?

    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.
    • Day 58 - 2024-11-27 Some quick 90-yard shots on a particular hole… before a lesson and testing out multiple Foresight Launch Monitors on GSPro.
    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
