Well guys, my car was broken into the night before I was going to play golf, so they got my entire bag of clubs. Unfortunately, I can't spend $2000 to refill my bag right now, and I'm not giving up golf for any amount of time, so I started looking at cheaper clubs to get me through.

I thought about used clubs, but I've been ripped off on ebay before, so I don't really want to go that way, and local used clubs are rediculously priced.

I really only needed 5-PW, since I had a spare driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, wedges and a putter in my son's set, and he rarely plays anymore. His irons are horrendous though, they're 25 years old, and too long for me. I started looking around, and found that I could order these Turbo Power Ti 9 components, and outfit them with a nice shaft (I chose the Rifle Graphite, Regular Flex), and I ordered a set of Winn Grips for them, and came in at around $200.

Does anyone have any experience with these? I'm not a low handicapper, more mid to high and a recreational golfer. I go out to enjoy the weather and get some exercise more than anything, and hang out with friends. I'm wondering if they'll be good for me for about a year until I recoup and can get another good set of irons.

So according to your sig, they stole your brand new R9 irons? Man that really sucks. I would be devastated.

Doesn't your car insurance cover the clubs if they were stolen

Yes, they got my brand new R9 Irons with 4 rounds of golf on them. I skimped and saved for about 6 months for those clubs, and I absolutely was in love with the R9's, they just felt right for me. Well, in another 6 months, I guess I can get another set of them. Luckily I have the serial numbers for them, and NC is very very tight on Pawn Shops. If they show up in a Pawn Shop, they have to be entered in a database for law enforcement by serial number, and that database is matched up against the theft reports and have to be cleared before the Pawn Shop can resell them. So if someone is stupid enough to pawn them, they'll be returned to me. I also stopped by Pro Golf, which is the only real golf shop around here, besides Dick's, and told them about it, and gave them the serial numbers as well.

My car insurance would not cover the clubs, I have currently filed with my homeowner's insurance, since the car was parked in the driveway when it happened, but I have no clue how long, if, or how much money I will get back from them.

Yeah homeowners should cover everything above your deductable. You might have to show receipts though.

Are you talking about the Turbo Power clubs from Hireko? If so I can say that I've bought from Hireko and the now defunct Dynacraft and their components are pretty good. Irons are bendable 2* and they back their stuff. I still have a set of their System Q irons that I'm keeping for future use.

A few years back, I bought a set of turbo power knock off Callaway Hawk-eye irons and had good shafts and grips put on them and I have to say they were really nice. I used them for a couple of years with no problems.

Man, Dynacraft went under? I have some of their clubs, they are fantastic. I have a Dynacraft milled putter that is sort of like a Scotty Cameron.

Hireko bought Dynacraft and still makes clubs under their name. They have been introducing new Dynacraft models every year since they've bought them. They have some cool new Dynacraft Prophet Tour irons this year.

Well, I got the component heads in the mail yesterday, and I went to open the box, kind of cringed, and then cut the tape. I expected to be disgusted with these "cheap" heads after fondleing my R9's so lovingly, but to be honest, at first glance and inspection, the heads actually look pretty good, and seem to be well built, although I know time will tell once I get them on the course next week sometime.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
