For starters, I didnt see a club or alignment aid on the ground. That is a must. As for the swing, seems senorchipotle whips the club inside with his hands. But thats an easy fix. Try to keep the club more in front of your chest. If he has a pga pro or somebody work with him on that its not as hard to do as it might seem.

The biggest thing i saw is as he goes to the top, his body stops moving and his hands and arms keep going. I used to do that too and its a total death move.. Youre totally out of sync from there and you can only do one of three things: get stuck on the inside comin back down and block the shot, throw the club back over your body and come over the top, or get lucky. Keeping the club in front of him better might solve both of those issues and shorten his backswing as well. But before making any changes make sure the grip, alignment, and posture is all good. Its hard to tell from the video.

Agree with that. The swing is nearly all arms. In Chipoltle's case, the arms dominate, the shoulders follow. The shoulder turn in this swing is a formality, almost like an empty gesture. You want the shoulders and core to be the driving force. I did the same thing for many years, and had to kick the habit.

As someone who's always taken the club back flat (I took it back nearly level to the horizon when I was a hacker, now It's more or less in line with my shoulders) I can say it can be a very hard habit to break. I can take it back steep (and will start to do that soon, after I've ingrained a few other things), but I merely break my wrists later than most people do. I don't think that's really a bad thing, but the arm dominated swing is . And did you know, a chipoltle is just a dried jalapeno?

thanks for the input guys. well appreciated. this was the first time i've ever seen my swing on video, and i must admit it was quite unusual. after a rather humbling round of golf yesterday, uttexas and i played with his new camera and filmed our swings. i was hitting my irons rather well, and my driver, with the exception of two shots, was as good as i could ask for, however short game and putting was found wanting. but i can see now i've got many things to work on in my swing.

Senor,
I think you have a great swing. Your results and ball flight could be drastically upgraded simply by strengthening your grip, which would square a very open clubface. Get that left hand to look like Boo or Zach's grip and you'll hit a few lefts early on, but stay patient and you'll be compressing the ball far better than before!
It really should be as simple as that.

I'll just include this image and leave it at that.

Well, except to point out that I wouldn't address all of these things at first. I'd pick one and work on that, and I'd probably start with one of the first two.

thanks guys, and thanks for the stills erik. i've been trying to figure out how to do that on my mac but can't seem to find the proper program. hopefully we'll have a day or two of good weather this week so i can work on those.

And did you know, a chipoltle is just a dried jalapeno?

lol... no, i didn't know that, actually. i got the nickname back in college, it's a long uninteresting story.
Senor,

thanks! i've been struggling with my grip since i started back playing after the summer. last time i played 18 my grip was a bit stronger, and i was drawing the ball more than i like it to. but now i can see that my follow through isn't what it should be that might change my ball flight once i get things straightened out.

Part of the reason you may have been hitting it left is because your hands have to be very active through impact in order to square the face up. By strengthening your grip you'll hit it left in the early going, but as your hands learn to quiet down, you'll be hitting flush and penetrating irons. And I know you haven't been doing that lately!

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
