I'm rather new to the site, but I've learned more about the golf swing in the last month or two I've been lurking around the site than I had the rest of my life. I appreciate the community around here a ton. That being said, I know these might get annoying, but I figure I'd see if anyone had a second to give a thought or two on my swing. I used to hit a pretty strong slice, but after working in the basement and backyard over the winter, I've come out hitting a little draw this "spring." Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks. Sorry about the poor video quality.

Nice swing. Good swing path and tempo. Difficult to tell without a face on view, but it looks to me like your arms outpace your lower body into the golf ball--exhibited by a bent forward knee at impact (I tend to do the same thing).

Work on this drill-

Thanks man. Makes a lot of sense.

Weight is on your heels...not in your insteps...you are flat-footed at impact....ALL YOUR WEIGHT needs to be on your forward foot, (your left foot), thru impact.....find me any single PGA Tour player out there that looks like you at impact with both feet flat on the ground... Just pause your video at impact...you do not need face on video to see that...at least I don't and that's what I do for a living. You need several drills to work that out of you...Good luck. Go find a Teaching Professional.

Going off what a poster above me said, your weight is on your heels, which is not a good thing. You can see that through impact and through the follow through, your front foot (left foot) actually rotates around your heel, and the toe of your left foot is in a different position that where you started. First off, try to get comfortable keeping your weight more on your toes. Then, there's this drill you can do where you just put a coin on your left foot, and practice being able to make swings without the coin falling off. This will really help you with your balance, and keeping your weight on your toes. It also may make your follow through more controlled and slightly shorter. Good luck.

Good tempo, but in my opinion you're taking the club too far inside on the takeaway. This could turn those draws into a snap hook with longer irons and/or driver. I'd work on take the club more straight back on the takeaway with the toe of the club pointing up.

Adams IDEA A7 19* UST Mamiya AXIVcore S
TM 2009 Burners 4-PW / Titleist SM Vokeys 50, 56 & 62 / TM Rossa Daytona 1 Ghost / Titleist Pro V1

Basically... a much more "athletic" stance? I think I've heard where players have said their stance feels like they're in a defensive basketball stance. Is that anywhere near correct?

Yes. Feel as if as you stand there I could be saying...screaming, "left..right...left...left...right.." and you could move to that spot as I say it... weight on your insteps, please.

Nice, thanks a lot. I played tennis in college so I've got a lot of experience hearing left right left etc... thanks.

It also looks like you've straightened your spine angle and moved your hips toward the target line at impact. That's another aspect of the weight being on your heels and being flat-footed, as previously mentioned. I think you need to rotate your hips aggresively in your downswing.

You have pretty good footwork. You might be a tiny bit on your heels as previously mentioned, but your right leg straightens a bit on the backswing, then it touches the left leg on the follow though, both good things. Your arms also look good at the top, and you hit some good positions. The spine angle does straighten, and when you hit the ball your arms and hands look funky, I just can't really tell because there is no head-on view.

I second this...hands look good but the club and shaft whip inside. This is not easy to fix...like someone else said you probably need a teaching pro....

on another point...don't you piss off your neighbors hitting golf balls at their houses??? there's a lot of windows at the end of your driving range!

Thanks jamo and fatphil...

haha, actually, the house at the end of the view is one of my best buddies from college... so he should be fine with it. I'm also hitting "almostgolf" balls... so the 7 iron I was hitting still lands about 15 yards short.

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
