I tend to go along with the general theme here. Turning nouns into verbs is mostly just a habit born out of lazyness, or maybe trying unsucessfully to be "cool".

And when you shank one or get a yip when you putt, you "Manning-ed" it.

The median age of the golfers I play with (or is it the median age of the people I play golf with) is over 60. No one games nothing in that group. We still use prepositions too. We do not hit driver. We hit the effing driver. Always amused at how the Tour players say they will or won't "hit driver".
