Playing without handicap must be the silliest thing I've ever heard. Handicap is there so everyone can compete against eachother. Without handicap your chances to win will be extremely slim, almost impossible. The difference between a handicap 8 and a handicap 21 is huge, way more than the 13 shots on paper.

My best tip would be to play with a handicap and play your own game. Expect to make bogies, don't try to follow your oponent, he will hit it longer and more accurate than you do. If you play to your par, you have a good chance to win.

Played the front nine as a practice and then we played matchplay on the back nine, flat match.

We were both 1 over par going onto the 18th (for the back nine), I was 1 up he won the 18th I bogeyed it and he got a par.
We decided to do a 3 hole play-off and we were level going onto the 18th and then he won.

I'm really happy about how I played. I BROKE 80!

Not if it was matchplay, you didn't. I'm assuming that there were conceded putts and holes. It's either stroke play or match play. Not both, unless you putted everything out. Given that you also said that the front 9 was" practice", I doubt that you did.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

What? You just keep track of your own hcp. Doesn't matter if some officer don't adjust handicaps, your handicap is what it is. If you play in the mid 80s, your handicap is definitely not 21.

Shorty beat me to it. You can't combine match play and stroke play. The rules and penalties are different. It doesn't compute.

He takes in the scores but never put them on the computer so my official handicap is 21.....

You should still update your handicap in here to what is correct. It's a lot of fun to keep track of your own handicap.

It seems to me you understand competition well outside the R&A; specifications. So go ahead and play against your pal whatever it is you played, but it ain´t golf.

... and I add, a 21 hcp that PLANS to shoot below 80 and ACTUALLY DOES... is not a hdp 21.

Please don´t swing while I´m talking !!

Ok, used a handicap calculator says I play off 14.

I'll use that for around here.
