I am intrigued to throw these in my bag this summer. Obviously all the orange and yellow balls of yore were rock hard, but I think Srixon could start something with making a premium ball available in a color. I know Tim Clarke and a few guys on the japanese tour are using them so they might catch on as a fad again for a few years.

there was a big thread on this.
Most people said they'd stick with white.

I personally don't care what the colour of the ball is as long as it performs.

I wish they'd sell it in a mixed dozen, or in an individual sleeve. I think i'd like to try them, but not sure that I want to drop $45 on a box, get to the course and find out that they drive me nutz, or I can't see them in the rough, or at approach i hate how the setup looks!
i'd get a sleeve though.

I know some golf stores will offer them in individual sleeves to try, I know my local store will. Just search around.

call me a traditonalist but I will stay with the white Z Star...the reason Srixon is producing these is becuase they are a Japanese company and colored balls are the rave on the Japanese Tour right now for some reason...I really don't think they will make it big on the US Tour but it really doesn't matter as someone said earlier that as long as the ball performs then that is all that matters but again (being redundant) I willl stick with the whtie Z Star...

This is true I know I've finished the 9th based on where I felt like I hit it. I don't play z-stars but if I was finishing late it might not be bad to have a couple in the bag.

So who's going to give these a try?? I am not comfortable playing a high end ball yet but do putt with a ProV1 and since I like having something a lil unigue, I ordered a dozen tonight just to try! I have a lil trouble tracking balls on long shots so as my play improves, I really will consider playing these full time. . . . when I'm not losing 4-5 balls a round! haha

I put a Tour Yellow Z-Star in play today and it was great. Very easy to track/find your ball and I shot my best round in 6 months. I'm a 12 handicap and shot 79 with 29 putts today with the yellow Z-Star. My buddies laughed at first when I took one out of the bag but it performed well today. I'll play them again!

there are two lighted courses here even though they are well lite if you hit a ball off the fairway or your not playing close attention it can be tough to find your ball. I need to pick up a box.

I have trouble tracking white balls in the sky particularly when it is overcast, I'm not dropping 45$ on these, but if Srixon or some other companies would come out with yellow or orange in a mid priced ball I'd be all over them. In the 1980's early 90's I always played a Maxfli orange till the leaves turned colors. Dandelions in the summer will give you fits finding a yellow ball in the rough. No problem if your course doesn't have any.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
