I played with my son yesterday. He was bombing his driver almost all day, but we were playing a little tougher course than he practices on. He ended up shooting a 82. It's still just a matter of consistency with him. He has the game to be shooting in the 70's consistently, but still has a few mental hiccups in the round.

We played 18 holes and kept records of the following:

putts: 17 front + 18 back = 35 putts
up and down: 2 out of 6 on the front + 0 out of 9 on the back = 2 out of 15 attempts

green hit: 2 + 2 = 4 out of 18 greens hit
fairways hit: 6 on the front and 2 on the back for 8 out of 14 fairways
85 on a par 68 or 17 over par.
I told my son if he got up and down 50% of the time or 7 times he would have reduced his score by 5 strokes and had 30 putts.

Congrats! I remember my son's first big time high school round: 74 in the conference championship as a 14 year old freshman. Just recently he shot 36 (3 pars, 3 birds, 3 bogeys) in a regular season match. It was impressive. I'm sure you have more good performances to enjoy.

I played last Saturday and Monday with my 15 year old son and I am playing again today, Saturday. The bet is if he beats me stroke or match play he gets his power cord back for his X-box and he can play Call Of Duty on-line. If he loses to me, he still has one more week without X-box.

Last Monday he shot 10 over for 18 holes his best 18 holes score to date. yesterday after golf practice we worked on chipping from 10 and 20 yards for about 30 minutes. My plan is try to get to the golf course an hour before our tee time to work on chipping and putting with him so that he can beat his best score of 10 over par and maybe have a chance to get his power cord back, but I do not think so...........

I played golf with my 15 year old son and we both shot 12 over par but I beat him at match play, he boogie the last three holes , with three putts . He was a gracious loser and I made him clean his room and get his thing ready for school this week and let him play X-box, call of duty.

His short game has improved, he got up and down several times.

You're so lucky... I can't wait until my son can beat me. He's only 2.5 right now, but he already knows how to putt, and he's trying to copy my swing :)

Cheers, Allan

My 16 yr. old son had a break through today in a tournament. He had been shooting in the 70's in practice, but in tournaments, he couldn't seem to break 80. Finally, today he had his best tournament round of 73 (1 over). He took 4th place and received his first individual medal. It was a big break through for him. I'm very proud of how far he has come in only his 2nd year of competitive golf. He's kind of behind a lot of the other players he plays against, because they've been playing a long time with plenty of tournament experience. This was good for his golf confidence to know that he can play with them.

After a very up and down season my son shot 76 in the conference final. His handicap is now lower than mine. He's gotta give me strokes when we play.........that's funny!

correction, My son hit a ball that I found on the 17th hole was out of bound so that would of led to two extra strokes and he would have tie my score of 12 over

Playing golf with my 15 year old son this afternoon along with my younger brother, and good buddy, James, we always play match play with double or nothing on 18th.

1) trying out a slight swing change
2) my son still trying to beat me
3) have not played golf with my younger brother for months
4) have not played golf with my good friend, James for over two weeks
5) will share our scores with my son. he is starting to record, putts, up and downs, green and fairways hit.

Life is good!

I was proud of his round, however he has not beat me while we both are playing, so we will wait to see what happens this afternoon.

    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
