Taylormade Burner 07 vs. R9 460?

Hey guys I took a trip to Golf Galaxy today to demo a few drivers, and really liked a couple TaylorMade drivers. I tested the 2007 TaylorMade Burner Driver (the red and silver one) and the R9 460. The burner that I tested was 10.5 degrees and had a regular flex even though I use a stiff. (There were no stiffs available in lefty). I hit this for a while and really liked it and the feel, but I was hitting some balls around the face most of them near the center. When I hit the R9 460 (9.5 stiff) the ball seemed to rocket off the face, and the I hit every ball right on the upper part of the face all within a half inch of each other right on the sweet spot. The guy who worked there said that the reason I probably had more dispersion on the burner was due to the regular shaft. I really liked both clubs, but I cannot decide which one I should get. What is everyone's opinion on this matter?

I'd have to go with the r9 460. I like the burner, but you can get the Motore shaft in the r9 460 (as opposed to being stuck with the REAX in the Burner, which isn't a terrible option), and I think it's a little hotter and puts a little less backspin on the ball. But the r9 460 is double the price right now, so that would make it tough. I'd give it a little bit of time and I bet the r9 460 will come down to $200 and swipe it up then.

I'd go with the r9 460 too. Taylormade clubs are designed with the sweetspot on the upper part of the face, so that could be another reason for the dispersion of the burner. However, after having experience with both the r9 and the burner series, there are serious differences that suit many different types of golfers. Burners are usually flat and have a lower trajectory, giving more distance, if that's what you're aiming for. The r9 series is very similar to the r7 series. I've had more experience with the latter, so I'll refer to it, but I'm referring to both. It's made for more of a controlled swing in that it has a smaller sweetspot. However, when you hit the ball on the sweetspot, wow. Then there's the price issue. Wait a little, then go for the r9.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm leaning towards the R9 460, but I'm not positive yet.

I like the feel of the R9 but the distance just wasn't there for me. Is the Burner TP or Tour Burner TP an option? Why not go with the Titleist 909 series driver since you've already had experience with the 905r.

909D2 is a much better club than the R9 alot longer and more accurate for me anyway but it may be different for you

The Burner is cheaper, but I am more of an R9 fan. Are you planning on getting fit for it? If so you can test them side by side.

Yes my club fitter will do all that. Thanks for the input guys I think I'm going to go with the R9 because I was puring that every time I hit it, and I am able to open or close the face which I like. Also I can switch shafts in and out really easily with it.
