I don't respect him as a person or a golfer, he has brought a lot of shame to the sport.

I'm not sure how that affects him as a golfer. Can you please clarify?

This was the equivalent to steroids in baseball.

So, sleeping with plenty of strange women helps you hit the ball farther?

That's what I've been doing wrong!

How much clarity do you need? Tiger is a professional, therefore he needs to act like a professional, on and off the course. His actions are what will help set him aside from other great players, because he lacks class. There is a reason that golf involves so much etiquette, and respect for the others around you. There have been many ways it has affected him as a golfer, he lost a lot of endorsement deals, thus losing fans, and customers. The negative press is what is equal to the steroid scandal, not the performance aspect obviously.

I used to work as a computer programmer. Does that obligate me to watch

Star Trek when I'm at home? Also, I'd be curious what aspect of professional golfer off the course says to limit one's options.

Do we know that he has been disrespectful to anyone to whom he owes respect? You and I don't know what type of relationship he has with Elin and the kids don't understand what is happening. To whom do you know he owes respect that he did not deliver?

We don't know how it affected him as a golfer. For all we know, he could go out and shoot a 54 on Thursday. I know that Gatorade and AT&T; lost a customer (me) due to their shameful response to the Woods news pieces, but I don't see how that reflects negatively on golf. And the fan count doesn't affect him: he's going to be the best for a long time, independent of how many people are rooting for or against him.

Seriously. Also, did Elin somehow not know he was into this? Or did this thing with Tiger and Jordan start after the marriage?

From what I've heard......She knew that he was seeing other women, but he told and lied to her that while dating, he was faithful. That was a stipulation for there marriage. Then he continued to lie about it all.

Did you really just compare your job as a computer programmer to that of a professional athlete? How often are you in the spotlight again? You then follow up that claim with a comparison of infidelity and Star Trek.

Did you accomplish what you wanted with that post?

I did make that comparison. I'm in the spotlight for less time than Tiger is. Do you only behave in a manner expected of you when others are watching? Would your view of Tiger's behavior change if you were the only one who knew, and you couldn't tell anyone? What if he, instead, were Eldrick the accountant who plays well on weekends?

You then follow up that claim with a comparison of infidelity and Star Trek.

I dunno. I think expecting a computer programmer to watch

Star Trek is a lot more reasonable than expecting a good-looking, famous, wealthy man to stick with one woman. Maybe I should have made a weaker claim, such as expecting the programmer to drink Mountain Dew. I'm not sure what your point is.

Yes. However, I seem to have also gotten this far off topic, so unless it returns to the topic of the thread, I'm going to stop with this line of argument.

Jordan even toted girlfriends under his arm in public while he was still married! I didn't realize most people didn't know this.

I am one of those who didn't know

I am an avid Jordan fan even.

Your spouting crap with no realistic basis whatsoever. Tigers personal life is not akin to steroids in baseball. He is not cheating at the game, he is legitimately the best golfer in the world. I dont care what he did off the course. Its none of my business. I've read the stories, I know what happened, and im still fine with him. He made mistakes, got too big for his own good, lost sight of things. Big deal, he's human. He makes mistakes.

Ummm...athletes aren't role models. Didn't Sir Charles say that? or was it Jordan? can't remember.... anyway, its true.

It was Sir Charles and in his exact words: "I'm not paid to be a role model. I'm paid to wreak havoc on the basketball court."

When athletes are recruited into the pro ranks such as the nfl, nba, and so forth they are judged by their performance in their particular sport. I have never watched a draft day or a Q school that awarded or took away points for monogamy. I agree that what Tiger has done is disappointing but I can understand it. He is the most wealthy and famous athlete in the world. The most beautiful women are offered up to him I'm sure every day. Any man that can sit here and say that he could turn that down is fooling himself. It's easy to say when your not in that situation and have no concept of it. That being said, I feel alot of the bashing is coming from another direction. Tiger has been under a microscope since he came on the scene and people have been looking for some small chink in the armor to pick at and they finally found it. The problem though is that it has nothing to do with golf no matter how much they try to fuse the two. Tiger is still the number one player in golf and will be for quite a while. He brought his C+ game to the masters and still hung close to Phil playing his best. I can't wait until the rust is polished off.

Does anyone think "institutionalized racism" and it's counterpart of entitlement play into this. Yesterday and today's non-white superstars grew up in a pretty racist America.

During their youth, Jordan was shunned by white coaches, Tiger would sneak onto play "exclusive" golf courses. Is it possible that they grew up with the attitude of "F--- Whitey" - and when they became superstars they were able to literally F--- whitey.

Jordan and Tiger seemingly only bang white chicks.

It's a big F.U. to the white-man-world their fathers raised them in.

    • I mean, a golfer is trespassing and damaging property. So, golf rules don’t supersede state laws. 😉 Like, if it isn’t marked and is off golf property. The right thing to do is take an unplayable lie or take stroke and distance.  Also, this is a liability for the course. The homeowner could easily say the course is liable for damage done because they knowingly didn't mark their boundaries which allowed golfers to trespass and damage property.
    • Interestingly enough, if the course (the Committee in Rules terms) doesn't mark the boundaries, there is nothing out of bounds.  I realize that neighboring homeowners would take a dim view of golfers whacking balls from their backyards, but that's what the Definition of Out of Bounds requires. "All areas outside the boundary edge of the course as defined by the Committee."
    • I had two events the past two days. Yesterday I was playing a course blind. Hit it solid. Hit 9/14 fairways, 12/18 greens, 34 putts. Many of those putts were the result of balls that were close-ish to the hole when they landed, but wound up a long way away once they'd finished rolling (backwards mainly). Then today, hit 11/13 fairways, 11/18 greens, 37 putts, and shot 80. 8 over par and it wasn't particularly pretty. My big problem today was my pitching. I was inside 100 yards of the hole and off the green on 9 occasions.  1st - drive to about 75 yards, fanned a 58 degree short and right. On the green, but a good 40 feet away and good two putt from there (so took 3) 2nd - laid up to a bunker and it's narrow past it, so had 165 in, missed it right with an 8 iron. Wet rough, chip from about 5 yards off the green and the club snagged. It got on the green, but only temporarily. Overcorrected a bit on the next one and hit it a bit firm and it rolled out to about 35 feet. Putt didn't break and it ran on a bit and I missed the one back (greens were fast and a little bumpy, which didn't help, but doesn't excuse either). (took 5 to get down from close to the green) 4th - had about 95 from the right rough, hit it on the green and two putts (3) 5th - 90 from the fairway, tugged it and it got a firm bounce, chipped on and hit what I thought was a decent chip, but it ran out down the hill and two putts from 20 feet (4) 7th - 65 from the fairway, significant upslope and hit it a bit hard, ran long left against the collar. Tried to blade a PW, but it got under a bit so didn't advance it anything like far enough. Made a good two putt from there (4) 11th - 63 from the fairway, hit a squirrelly pitch on the green and two putts (3) 12th - 75 from the semi-rough, caught it a bit clean and it wound up on the back edge. Putting down a tier and it ran 8 feet past (that was actually a really good putt and couldn't have done any better I don't think) and missed that (4) 13th - 55 from the fairway, overcorrected and hit the big ball before the small ball. Then made a stellar up and down from 25 yards short to an elevated green with a putter (3) 15th - down in three from a greenside bunker (3) That was it. The other 9 holes I hit it on the green from outside 100 yards. So on those 9 occasions, I took 32 shots to get in the hole. 3.56 average. Terrible. Reason I'm posting this in here is to see if anyone has any suggestions for how to work on my contact with pitch shots. I don't have access to a grass range. Only mats and it's easy off a mat. Partly I think my problem is I've hit it off mats so much this winter that I've lost my judgement on where the ball is versus the ground because of the leeway granted. Open to ideas. I also suspect that under pressure I stand a bit closer to it and then get steep and hit down on it and it puts me in a bad place, but I can't seem to get myself to not do that.
