Anyone care to share their pre-swing routine?

Currently I feel mine takes too long causing my legs to feel "heavy" and really tenses me up before I swing.

Pull a club
get 10 yards or so behind the ball
see my shot
pick a far target
pick intermediate target
take grip
address ball
swing

no practice swings/walk up and back/bs... just see it, aim it and go. Maybe 1 waggle at address to loosen up the arms. The more I think about it the more I tense up and the worse I do, so I just dont really think about it.

Pull a club

Yea I am thinking about shortening up mine. I agree that you are better off probably the faster you can hit the ball without speeding up your hands or body on the take away.

I'm still trying to get one I'm comfortable with. This is what I'm going with right now:

Stand about 5-10 yards behind the ball, see the shot I want to hit, and pick my target.
Line up my target with some sort of a mark a few feet in front of the ball
Align my clubface to the mark
Stand to the club and grip
Look at my target and envision my shot one more time
Waggle
Swing

Sometimes when I'm envisioning my shot and picking my target in step 1, I take a little half practice swing and sometimes I don't. I'm still working with it to see what feels the best, but I want to find that balance of getting loose and getting my mind right with not taking too long and over-thinking.

How do you see a shot shape before you pick a target??

Pull a club
get 10 yards or so behind the ball
pick a far target
see my shot
pick intermediate target
1 slow deep breath in through nose and out through mouth releasing tension
take grip
address ball
2 waggles
swing

No practice swings!

Nothing I hate more than watching some hack take 15 practice swings and then shank it in the lake like me.

1. Get distance from gps
2. Pick club, then go one club further
3. Stand 5 yards behind ball, pick out long target, see shot shape (mostly how the wind and slope of the ground are going to affect the end result, not quite good enough yet to shape shots.)
4. Pick out target within 1-2 yards in front of ball along a line to long target
5. Swing the club gently, feeling rhythm and seeing where bottom of the swing is
6. Address ball, lining up club face to short target
7. Most important for me!!! Positive swing thought (also establishes my tempo) "niiiiiiice and eeeasy, ooouuuuut and iiinn"
8. Swing away, unless I have a negative swing thought udring my backswing, then I reset and start over my routine.

Your desire to change has to be greater than your desire to stay the same.

1. Asses lie and wind/slope/yardage
2. Pick Club
3. Stand behind ball and imagine shot
4. Pick out a line and take my line
5. Swing away

I dont like taking to long to do this because if you stand over your ball for more than a few seconds you forget that shot imagine in your head and sometimes you dont get the result you want.

    • Day 34 (14 Dec 25) - Got outside for a few moments to work on bump and runs with the 4h (again using the exaggerated weight shift reminder of the left (lead) heel). Finding that it helps keep the downswing arc extended.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
