I started hitting balls again this spring about two weeks ago. I was hitting pretty good at first, but the fats are back worse than ever. It just kills me because I seem to be getting better ball flight and distance than before(on the solid hits). I hit the 8 iron about 140, when I hit it a little fat. When I catch it really clean though, It flies about 155. The problem is most shots are of the 135 to 140 variety, with 3 out of 10 chunked so bad the ball goes maybe 50 yards.
Earlier this year, on this forum, Dave Wedzcik posted that I should try drawing a line on the ground, and practice making divots after the line. I have done this a lot, and can hit the ground in front of the line all day. My problem is when I put a ball on the line. Dont know what I am doing different. I am at my wits end because it does not seem to far away to be playing decent golf.
Anybody got anything to help??

try looking at the spot in front of the ball, rather than at it, as you swing.

Keep your head still, don't move the body back, keep the pressure on the left foot. On the downswing, weight shift forward, head stay still.

Without a video it is merely guessing.

Are you able to record your swing? That will show what you are doing different. When I hit em fat it's because I slide my hip toward the target and my right should drops.

    • A strong grip cups the wrist (lead) and then it wants to flatten through impact, something I used to be able to avoid to keep it from going left and protecting my forearm (the main premise of my set up). Longer the club, harder it is becoming. Either way, yes, I need to transition to gripping it open.
    • Why don't you grip it "open" so you can return your hand to the place where you're comfortable/not sore, but the ball won't go left? It's effectively weaker… without actually "being" weaker?
    • Day 47 - 2024-11-16 Light backswing work with about 3 or 4 rehearsals for every ball hit. Only about ten minutes while waiting for a potential member to show up (he was 25 minutes late). 😛
    • Idk but I would have to imagine that a putter that is aimed where you think it's aimed would be the most important aspect of a putter
