Hi,
I'm in the market for buying a new set of irons. I'm about a 9 handicap I usually shoot around low 80's to high 70's. Right now I'm playing some old tour model Titleist blades. And While I am a fairly good iron player ( I give up a lot strokes in my short game) I'm looking to find a forged iron with a little more forgiveness. I took my fathers mizuno mp 33's to the range and despite them being truly beautiful clubs they are not any more forgiving than my titleist blades that I already have. And I tried out my friends R7 TP's and found I couldn't feel the ball off the club face at all, and they were really weird and difficult to work the ball. So I'm looking for a club somewhere in between those two, something with classic styling and blade feel. I'm leaning towards the mp60's although I think that they might have too much of a cavity back for me. I also plan on checking out the titleist ap2's and the mp 32's. Needless to say nothing is jumping out at me and I'm beginning to run in circles. Any club suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

look at a new set of titleist 755's, might be a slightly "older club" (03-05 maybe???) but they're nice. To what your saying, they sound just right for you.

I'm currently playing a set of titleist blades as well. Hit the mp58 this weekend... good god it was a good club. For a muscleback/cavity with that much forgiveness, the look and feel was pretty outstanding.

Really wish I hadn't hit them... or told my fiance about how much they cost.

well, they aren't a grand unless you buy the whole set. in my opinion, you shouldnt be hitting the 3i on these ... or the 4i unless you are an amazing striker ... and if you're the good of a striker, you should be hitting the ball professionally.

try a 4 or 5 through PW. It'll save quite a bit of dough for you ... and you can always start with getting PW-7 or something and add the other clubs as you come across more dolla bills yall

You might consider the Callaway X-Forged irons. Latest version came out in 2009, same as X22 Tours.

Club designer Ralph Maltby rated both of them in the GI category. Oddly, the X-Forged had an MPF = 621, whereas the X22 Tours only had an MPF = 594. Not a tremendous difference, but one would expect the X22 Tours to score higher. (X22 Tours had higher Center of Gravity than X20 Tours, making them more workable on ball height, but less user-friendly).

Also, some places are selling off recent X-Forged wedges for $69 each. If you like the irons, you might get some wedges also.

How closely do your irons resemble these?

Write down the name of each blade on the market right now onto little pieces of paper. Put them in a hat. Pull out a name - there you go. In my opinion those are more forgiving than your Titleist Tour Model blades.

Give the MP-60s a try. They look great, and feel even better. The cavity should not deter you in trying these irons out because they are so small. These irons are really half cavity backs. Cavity on upper part of iron for a half blade/half cavity look to give you that forgiveness. You get a mid ball flight that just cuts through the wind. And the short irons just stops on the green when you want it to. If you want the current model Mizunos, try the MP62's. These are full cavity backs that Luke Donald plays. A little larger cavity with just enough forgiveness but an all Player's Iron.

Mizuno MP 60's are excellent and there is nothing wrong with the MP 32's either. IMO the 60's are a little more forgiving. Also a old set of Titleist 690 cb's are excellent old irons. Any of these 3 irons sets are excellent and have the reputations to back them up and every bit as good or even better than the new stuff. Also if you buy the old stuff you get a better price and could possibly change out the shafts to something like PX or KBS. Also consider doing a mixed bag, like cb's up to 7 or 8i and then blades for the rest--just some suggestions.

haha that's probably true

I'll post some pictures tomorrow, they're pretty similiar except for the cut line at the bottum.

You could give the Nike CCi Forged a look. I would also agree with the advice of giving the Callaway X-Forged a try.

Which irons did you test the 32's against? What model titleist were you playing?
