Would demoing a cast club tell me anything about its forged counterpart?

This may be a very stupid question so I apologize in advance, but I wanted to try the Nike CCi Forged irons but the local pro shop only has them in cast. I prefer the feel of forged, but am wondering if I like the cast ones, could I use my experience with them to decide if I want to buy a set off of ebay?

Again I apologize if this is a horrid question, just remember I am relatively new to golf (and if you have not read any of my other threads I hit the mp 52s and 58s well...they are just a little too pricey for me, thus looking at the CCis) Thanks for any input on this.

I tried to do some additional searching and it sounds like the only difference will come in feel and a little bit of a forgiveness difference. Is this true?

Any differences you experience will have nothing to do with whether they are cast or forged. Forged clubs, as has been pointed out a million times on this site, do not feel any better. It's just that many forged cubs are a different design and feel different because of this design, not how they are made.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Mmmm... Yes, and no. It's not a matter of how they're made, but what they're made

of . Forged clubs are almost always made from a mild carbon steel, so they are softer, and will feel that way. If you take the Cleveland 588 and the CG-12, which are more or less the same, but one is made from the harder stainless steel (588), and the other softer carbon steel (CG-12), the softer carbon steel feels softer, is adjusted easier, but will rust or get dinged up faster.

Irons hit the ball different distances because they have different lengths, and lofts. The reason they hit the ball farther is because they are stronger lofted, and they are longer. Your Pitching Wedge is 46°, the Nike is 47°. It's a great gimmick, and it sells a lot of clubs.

it's not just about loft though.

A CB iron will hit the ball higher showing the need for less loft. a blade will have a more penetrating flight so it needs a bit more loft. some of the de-lofting is a marketing gimmick but there's reason behind what they're doing.

Only to the point that MBs should be 1-2° weaker than CBs. But the lofts have creeped an amazing 6° since the original sets, and in some cases (Wilson Di6), 10°! If the lofts were not a selling point, MBs would have 52° PWs and CBs would have 50° PWs. But the modern CB PW is 46°, and the Burner PW is 45°. The Wilson Di6 PW is 42°. That's a little extreme.

It's not necessarily a gimmick. They are making lofts stronger because as iron technology has evolved they have been able to move the COG back and closer to the ground. This means that they can deloft the club and still get the same launch angle with more distance. Added length is solely for distance however.

I read both of those, thanks. Good reviews, but since they were done by different guys it is a little hard to judge whether one was really any "better" than the other. After reading both I sort of assumed maybe the forged would be the way to go since I like the way they feel over cast, but then Cody got a lot of crap for his review from guys saying they love their cast and are not sure what he was referring to in some parts of his review. Thanks again though, I do appreciate any links to other threads, I do not intend to be "that guy" that brings up the same old topics. I think I will go ahead and hit the cast today and see what happens.
