Okay guys, here's the deal, wife and I were invited by good friends to play in a lil fun 4th of July scramble last year. Well, as I'm sure you can tell, that hooked me. About a month later I started really getting serious about playing (took off 3 months for a cold WET winter) but I'm taking lessons regularly, practicing and playing as much as time allows. So, here's my question. . . .

I'm a lil concerned about my distance. I'll post them at the end. Please tell me if I need to not worry about this for now. . . .

56 - 65-70
49 - 80-85
pw - 100
9i - 110
8i - 120
7i - 130
6i - 140
5i boxer - 155
4i boxer - 165
3w - 180
D - was hitting it 220-230 but something has gone wrong so now, it's 200-210.

I'm getting pretty consistent with my irons, still working a fade out of the driver.Thoughts or opinions??

Keep at it. Unless you consistently played a raquet sport, baseball, or hockey, there are a lot of muscles that need to get stronger. You may already have strong muscles, but you'll be using them in new ways - small ones (hands and feet), big ones (forearms, shoulders, core, legs), flexibility, and the squishy pink muscle between the ears - it takes time. Your yardages are low for an experienced player, but you're a beginner who's off to a good start - you've found the Sand Trap forum. I've been playing for 25 years and it's helped my game somewhat.

At your handicap level it's fine. You probably don't have good ball-striking and lag yet to get more distance. Impossible to tell what you can work on without video of course.
You should not worry about distance at this point, but rather starting with one thing at the time to fix in the swing. When you start making progress and better impact, you will start hitting it longer.

Wow, your distances sound just about exactly like mine! Some days I get the 9I out to 120 and maybe 130 on occasion, but that's usually just on the range when I'm concentrating on that club for a bit. My observation is that my problems never result from lack of distance, unless that lack of distance is due to a total mishit, so I don't worry about the distance.

The USGA definition of "bogey golfer" includes a 200 yard average drive, and "scratch" a 250 yard average. So I'd say you're in a good spot distance wise.

I played baseball all my life and when i started playing golf, i hit the ball as long as you are now. Over time i'm sure you will get longer.

Work a lot on your short game and you will see that distance is only a small part of the game. The distance will come but you'd be surprised how many shots you will save being able to get up and down. Good luck
