This just started, and my usual mess up/miss has always been a slice. I know its kind of hard to say without video but anyone know some base causes or anything?

Some quick fixes might be, weaker grips or hold off on the release through impact.

tried the weaker grip, didnt work so much, and holding off the release is how i hit a fade, i might be over rotating my hands but i cant get it to be in bewtween over rotating and holding off without thinking about it to much and getting poor contact.

My miss-hit is a hook and it usually is caused for me by becoming too "handsy". I really notice it when I get fatigued. Instead of making great shoulder and hip rotation, I use my arms and hands. I've tried to change my grip to fix this when it happens and it doesn't do much. If it's in the middle of a round, I usually have to play to an open stance or aim further right of the target than normal.

I have been struggling with this intermittently for the last couple of months. My problem seems to be at set-up. I was getting my feet too far apart and getting a real flat swing to have any chance of getting through the ball. If my timing is off it is either a big hook or a block right. Get my feet back to shoulder width and now I'm swinging more upright again and getting a slight draw or push rather than a hook or block.

This should be the big hint. If the usual shot is a slice, then odds are the swing is outside in with a face that is open to the path. If suddenly you start to hook it, odds are that the cause is the same swing path with a shut face. With that, it appears that the culprit is merely face angle, and therefore the problem is to be found somewhere in that.

If you can get a video, then do so, but until then, I would do this. Put a ball down, and place the club behind it, but not in the normal way, actually get down on your knees on the opposite side of the ball, and place the club face behind the ball. Then, hold it in that position, and move around to your normal adress position. You may find that the face looks very open. It's possible that you unconsioulsly began to set up with the face shut, and now it looks normal to you. At adress, the club should look like it points to 1 o'clock if your target is 12 o'clock. Try this and see if it helps.

Hook, the club face is closed compared to your swing path. Quiet your hands through impact, you want the club head to continue to point down the line through impact as your rotate around your spine. If you start pushing or slicing, that is you not rotating through enough, not the hands but the body.

Check your shoulder alignment. Generally if your shoulders point more toward 1 o'clock (right hander) you'll tend to draw/hook. If they point more toward 11 o'clock you'll tend to cut/slice. Maybe your club face is too closed at impact? Try the same swing, pick the club up a little higher, and start with a slightly more open face. (That's what I tend to do when I initiate panic sequence "I CAN'T STOP HOOKING THE THING!!") lol

Extend your spine and push gluts forward more through impact. This has helped me when I have problems hooking the ball.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
    • Day 126 12-16 Back swing and rotation work today. Didn't hit any balls. Focusing on rotating and getting to lead side.
