I know this is common knowledge but don't purchase a draw biased driver if you plan on improving your swing. When I first started golf last summer it was banana slices all day. I figured a draw bias driver would help and it did till I started getting lessons and figuring out my swing. My nice baby draw with irons is a pull/hook with my driver now due to the exaggerated closed face at set up. The only way to hit this club straight now is to cup my left wrist in an attempt to keep the face square not closed at impact. So if anyone wants a diablo draw driver send me a message haha

I'm in the exact same situation, and agree whole-heartedly. Some sage advice, rather than any lessons thus far, has "fixed" my swing just enough that now I hit huge hooks unless I set up with a slightly open club face now : {

I tell this to customers at work all the time, yet none believe me. Management also doesn't like it because they just want it off the shelf and gone :P I explain to them exactly what the draw bias does, and what it will do if you continue to use it and start getting better. Basically I feel that its better to learn to hit a draw or fade on your own/with lessons and practice, than to rely on the equipment to do it for you every time.

Is this something that can be corrected back to neutral at a golf galaxy or Golfsmith or something? I'd rather do that than buy a new driver!

That I know if, it can't. The driver is shaped and weighted differently than a neutral or even open faced driver. That I know of, the face is slight closed, and more weight is put in the heel of the driver to encourage turning the toe over easier, not something you can really change :/

Thanks a lot for this thread! Possibly saved me a fair few pounds. I was set on getting a draw-based driver when I eventually pick up a set of clubs again, because I remember having a huge fade (definitely wasn't a slice), only on my driver. However, I guess it'd make more sense to pay for some lessons!

Please do not do this....or even consider it. We wonder why things have gone up so much in price. It is due to unethical practices like this.

turning it in for store credit as a used club is good, but trying to do it as new is not right, none the less they'll probably be able to tell anyways if it was used or not.

You're right, taking back a club with a reciept is unethical lol...and it has nothing to do with prices going up there cheech, i was in retail. to be honest, the place might sell it at a discount it returned used. (which would help another customer, while the op can get a club that suits him) Ex: So, with the car companies allowing you to use their car for up to 60 days, charging $.30 a mile with the chance to return it will make the cost of caravans, nay all dodges across the world go up a couple g's right? prolly not. they'll sell it at a discount, not for full msrp. and as for returning it to the store? they buy clubs cheaper than msrp anywho and make money on them, even on returns. don't believe it? if they don't use them they can donate the product to a charity or organization and use it as a tax write off. /rant

Don't worry, I wouldn't I really like the driver and have an easy fix or two for it (I think) that seem to work most of the time. I couldn't do this anyway because I bought it off of Craigslist! I really prefer to keep it, I love the sound it makes and the feel of a solid hit. I'm not a long hitter, don't think any driver will change that! I just want it to be 200 yards and in the fairway, that's all I ask.

If you are seeing a pull hook it's because you are hitting a pull hook. I hit my friends draw ft-9 and I would say it starts a little more right than my neutral driver but nothing outrageous. Even with a draw bias it would not cause you to hit a hook much like fade bias shouldn't cause you to hit a slice. Look at it like this based on your theory I play a draw with a neutral so I would need a fade bias to hit it straight but I'm betting I would still draw the fade bias. I could also occasionally snap hook any of the three...haha

Wouldn't a closed club face at address (draw biased) be even more closed at impact? I'm not seeing the same shot pattern with my 3/5 wood and they are neutral.

Posted
Yes it would be more closed but not to the point you would be hitting pull hooks.

Just read that the pull comes from coming over the top. That helps. Back to the never ending swing changes :)

My previous driver supposedly had a square face. But, about midseason I'd start hitting a couple of bad hooks per nine.

Got on a launch monitor, and I found out it had 2 degrees closed face. Had to go to a slightly open stance to avoid hooks.

Focus, connect and follow through!

LOL, and another one sees the light and realizes that all the easy stuff are just band aids for bad swings. Subsequently their game(s) will never improve b/c the swing will always be crap.

Most draw drivers don't create pull hooks. They have no more of a closed face than most other GI drivers. And the little heal weight most draw drivers have isn't going to create a pull hook. Now the draw drivers that are offset heavily sure can cause a pull hook. It all depends on what kind of draw driver you hit.
