I know people ask about Drivers all the time, but I am looking for a short list of possible drivers to demo that should help add distance to my tee shots. I drive the ball straight about 75% of the time with the bad shots going between 10-20 yds right.
I currently use a 400cc driver and would not mind going smaller if it would help my cause. I dislike 460cc heads, but if that will help me to get the most distance then i will take it. My current driver goes around 240-250. I hit my Uncle's 07 Burner about 10 yds farther. The ball seems to die in the air, I feel that I hit the ball high. I demoed a couple drivers a while back at 9.5* instead of the 10.5* mine is now and was told the launch angle was right where it should be on the 9.5*.

I stated that I am not interested in working the ball, mainly because I hit the ball straight now and do not play in a lot of situations where it is necessary. With the power it would be nice to play something that has really nice sound. Suggestions?

Thanks, and sorry if this topic is beaten to death.

If your bad drives are *always* to the right a slightly less stiff shaft might help (or faster swing) but 20yrds isn't much to me and a less stiff shaft will reduce your distance.

The sound of my sumo is like when you hit an aluminum baseball bat. It definately sounds powerful and turns heads at the range.

Titleist 909D3 (440cc), Cobra S9-1 Pro S or D (440cc), Ping I15 (not sure)..... Get fitted for the shaft, used to fight high ball flight until I found the V2 and the Ozik Xcon. My 2 cents...

Mizuno MX-700. Its not the best for working the ball but its very forgiving and it has a really hot face, so the ball launches off of the clubface.

a less stiff shaft wont make you lose distance, unless your swinging 115+ mph and using a reg. or lower flex. more flex equals more lag, but to much like i just said would make for to much lag causing mishits.

I second on the Cobra S9-1, my favorite for distance. Also the new Nike machspeed and Ping I15 (which I didn't like for feel).

If you feel that your ball is ballooning and going too high, you might want to get fitted for a shaft. I have two 10.5° drivers and they both launch very differently due to the shaft. If you have the funds to spare, definitely get fitted.

Demo the Ping G15, it is available with the aldila serrano shaft which launches pretty low. It is also a very forgiving driver with a nice sound to it.

I moved from Taylormade drivers to the Cleveland line and have been really satisfied. The new Launcher DST is very long and forgiving IMO. I upgraded the shaft to fit my game, and I have never felt so confident with a driver in my hand.

Matter of fact, I hit 13 or 15 fairways last round... :)

Generally, the 400cc clubheads you're looking for are geared more for guys who DO want to work the ball. I'd look for a club that is 460cc but has a deep face, so that it looks "smaller". Mizuno 630 comes to mind off the top of my head.

Basically, any of the 460cc clubs from a major manufacturer this year is going to be a forgiving cannon of a driver. Ping G10, Taylormade Superfast and Supertri, Cleveland DST, Cobra S2, Mizuno 630, Titleist 909, Adams Fast 10. I've hit them all, they all kill the ball and are quite forgiving, it's just a matter of preference. If you asked me which I like best, I'd say G15.

I always had problems hitting the fairway off the tee. Got the Cobra S2 and I now have problems Not hitting the fairway. Being able to hit my second shot from the fairway every hole has improved my game a TON. Try the Cobra.
