yesterday while at my local course i practiced quite a few shots at a 210 yd par 3 and i realized that i only hit my 4h 5 yds longer then my 4i and i hit my iron alot better
i hit 4 shots with both and 3 of the 4 with my iron hit the green and the shots with my hybrid where terrible
i can control my iron shots better off the tee and off the fairway so should i drop the 4h or hang on to it?
thinking of getting rid of it and picking up a 5w because i hit my 3w pretty good

Im going to drop my 4H and go with a 3H instead. I found the same results as you too. Maybe its my hybrid, but I can never tell when I pure a ball.

I'm in the same predicament...I just dropped my 4 Nickent 5dx because I couldn't hit it for the life of me....and so I just put my three iron back into the bag....All I read is how incredible they hybrids are easy to hit and what great distance they have but i've never seen it.....

dump the 4h. If you can hit 3i well, try 5w/3w. Or a 4w... you can get a hot rodded 4w (+1/2" in shaft, =3w length). This way gap b/w driver and 3i are met. Leaves space for more wedges.

I love my hybrids, and so far seem to hit them farther and much better than my irons, just me though. Now if only I could learn to hit a 3W.

I have a 3H and hit it about 15 yds longer than my 3i. Straighter too.

Hybrids, for me, are generally a club longer per number. So, 4h is a 3 iron replacement. I use a 4h as a 3 iron replacement and I love it. I use a 5h to replace my 4 iron also, but I'm debating giving the 4 iron a go again. Overall, I'm very happy with hybrids.

It surprises me that as a 35 handicap you can hit the green 3 out 4 times from over 200 yards. My advice is this...Get rid of your driver and hit nothing longer than the 4 iron. 200 plus straight off a tee consistently should knock 15 strokes off your handicap.

The biggest issue I see with higher handicappers using hybrids with poor results is due to them using them wrong. Most people try to hit them like a wood. You need to hit them like the iron you replace them with. Do not use a sweeping swing. This is likely the problem because if you sweep them, you will deloft the club and lose distance. If you hit it correctly (like an iron with steeper swing) it will go farther than the iron. Unless of course you have stronger lofted irons, which many today are.

Good Luck.

you might be joking but i've thought about using the ole 4 iron instead of the driver a few times

i have some wiffle balls and practice alot in my back yard and for some reason the 4i and 7i always seem to be the ones i'm the most comfortable with i try to hit the hybrids like my irons i just feel more comfident with the irons i guess everyones different

I am not joking at all. I had a very high handicap several years ago and found that i could hit the 7 wood a couple hungred yards straight. I took 3w and driver out of the bag and told my brother to keep them. I didnt want to be tempted to put them back in the bag. Handicap went down immediately. Once I got to about an 18, I went and bought a driver that I could hit...the old girl is still in the bag (about 12 years now). Dont let ego get in the way.

i have a 5 wood in my bag and its great off the tee when i dont use my driver, and its amazing on the fairway when i need to give the ball some distance. it doesnt need to be hit hard to go far and straight. i dont have a 3 iron cause i hated it on my old set, plus my new set starts at 4i sooo yeah. ive never hit a hybrid ever, so i cant tell you anything about that but definitely look into a 5w. try out the taylormade burner if you get a chance, it feels and hits great.
