Alright i just have heard alot of opinons on the wood vs. hybrid debate. When i got my first set of Acuity golf clubs from dicks sporting goods the woods were deep faced and super hard to hit off the ground. My game has improved greatly since then and last summer i compared my woods off the fairway vs the titliest f1 fairway. The titliest was so much easier to hit. However this is as far as i went with woods, just demoing them. Because although i shoot in the low 80's at this time (plan to be mid 70's by end of summer) i chose to go with no woods and all hybrids. I have 2 nickent hybrids. A 4 hybrid of 23* and 2 hybrid of 17*. My question lies in with my handicap dropping should i step up to a wood instead of a hybrid. OR just get a 1 iron hybrid of 14*? However my problem lies in for some reason i can practically hit a 3 wood as long as a driver even though my driver is 9.5 and woods are like 14*. When i have a wood my bag i become a weenie and hit it off the tee instead of fixing my driver swing. I would do the same if i have a very low lofted hybrid too. I hit the 17* hybrid about 230 yards if not more. And driver about 260-280. Do i really need another club for just 30 yrds. I never say "I wish i had a 250 club".

I'd forget getting another wood or hybrid. If those distance are correct, there must be something severely wrong with your swing if you're not in the mid 70s consistently. Buy a video camera, or buy some lessons from a pro. Good luck.

I n that case, don't worry about another long club. You might want to look more at fine tuning your wedge selection and working on your short game.

Sounds like you have your long club, if i could hit my 3 hybrid that far all the time, i wouldnt have any fairway woods at all, hybrids are just a lot more versatile. I only use my 3 wood and new 5 wood if I get a perfect lie in the fairway or from the tee on a short par 4, otherwise Ill hit my 3 hybrid, especially in the rough. 200 yards straight down the middle is better than inconsistent yardage and direction from a less than perfect lie with a fairway wood though it is fun when i have a mile to go on a par 5 to just take a mighty whack and see how far I can hit them sometimes.

I'm in the same boat. I want to play 15 clubs.....but that might be a no no!! I'm dropping my 3wood for now.....or maybe my 60* lob depending on conditions. Mostly though...I see no use for the 3 wood because myhome course doesn't warant it if I play ok. That's the key though...IF I PLAY OK!! If I am short on the tee on some drives, I need the 3...I might just deal with it though as I have been out 8 times this year (live in Maine) and I have hit the 3wood once.

What's in my bag:
Superquad Driver
19* and 22* Rescue Hybrids
4-PW MP 57 Irons
