I line up the "Titleist prov1 x" on the side of my golf ball with my intended line. I then just try to get putter face and body square to that and trust it.

I used to be able to trust it more often than not, but still not enough. Now I'm trying another way.

What are your techniques? I actually don't aim, I just make a few practice shots and hit it, because I don't actually have an idea how to aim....

I noticed most of the responses are about the spot you are trying to use as your putting target, this is really your read of the putt. I think it is just as important to recognize how you align yourself. Parallel is the classic advice, and I generally follow a routine that gets me close to parallel, (actually jus a little open, common for right eye dominant people I believe). My other key is I have a slightly damaged right elbow, to many curveballs, because I had no talent. I lock it in a position close to my right side down my target line. This would vary by golfer but try to figure out what part, back of your left hand, right palm, left shoulder, you get the idea, when facing down or perfectly parallel to your target line gets the ball rolling over your initial aiming spot.

I line up the "Titleist prov1 x" on the side of my golf ball with my intended line. I then just try to get putter face and body square to that and trust it. Nine times out of ten, once I'm over the ball I don't feel lined up right, but if I just allow myself to trust it, I'm usually better off.

I use this method too, and yes it doesnt feel right when your over the ball, but when it drops in the hole thats all that matters

I use to line up the text on the ball with my line, but then i started to concetrate more on that than feel. So i went to looking at nothing at all, the blank side of the ball.

My routine,

Read the putt, depends on the distance, break, ect.. For a short simple putt i will try to find the apex of the putt, were it will start to break down towards the hole. Then i will find a spot about 3 feet between that and my ball. I will stand about 2 feet behind the ball, inline with that mark and take practice swings looking at were i think i need to hit it out there to get the speed right, i wont look at the hole unless its a straight putt, even then i will look past the hole. While looking at my spot i make 3-4 practice strokes for feel, trying to get a sense of the speed. I will go up to the ball, line up the putter face to my mark, and then give one more quick glance to were i want to hit it and let it rip.

I recently found that leaning directly over the ball gives me more control of my stroke and makes me more confident. Read the green as if you never played golf before and were just going off of common sense. I've made my best putts in my first 2-3 rounds of golf.

I was also taught to never leave a ball short.

I purchased a chalk line recently at Lowes and I've been practicing with it each day. It's made a difference in training myself to trust the line.
