So I am graduating from college in a couple of weeks and will be going back to my summer job which I will be done each day by around 12 or 1pm. With that said, I would love to work at a golf course, but I am almost positive there are no openings. Would it be strange for me to ask some local courses if I could volunteer some of my time after work (maybe walk the course and repair divots/ball marks or do general clean-up). I would do it for nothing just to be around the game, but was wondering if it would be okay to ask something like "could I come and chip putt at the practice green anytime then?" (. I need as much practice as I can get, but do not have enough money to go out more than a few times a month. I figure if I am around the course I can learn things about the game.

Have any of you volunteered at a course? Is it okay to ask about practicing there (or maybe even being able to hit a bucket at the end of the day).

Our muni has several volunteers. People washing and parking carts, doing little odd jobs that the pros and staff would rather not do...

They all get to play free golf.

Yeah, free golf would be nice too, but i'll take the range any day.

I volunteer at a course in exchange for a membership. You should be able to find a job that will get you playing privileges. The course saves money by having volunteers rather than employees do the grunt work...so it's a win-win situation if you plan to play alot of golf.

You might be able to find a position as a marshal... they're usually unpaid positions in exchange for golf privilages.

I did it one summer, it was at a pretty nice course with good staff, so a very enjoyable experience.

Cheers, Allan

I work my 6-2:30 job at a range/practice facility under new ownership who hired me in. It has a nice sized pro shop, 36 hole miniature golf, NEW learning center with Trackman and launch monitors, just applied for a liquor license, gonna put in simulators. Then 2 nights a week and 3 Sunday mornings a month I work on a local Country Club course for a few hrs by myself doing whatever the Super needs done (I previously worked here for him for 12 years) in exchange for a paycheck (more per hr. than you would think) and a golf membership at this club. This all has happened within the last 5 weeks. I was an unemployed husband/stay at home father for 16 months by no choice of my own. Right now, life is GOOD!!!

Yes. I would call them and ask if there is any positions available. That way you can be prepared and let them know you are interested and when you will be in to fill out the application.

Alright, that is what I was planning on.
