Wrong flex=?

I have a regular flex shaft in my driver. I have never checked my swing speed, but I was wondering what sort of issues this could cause if I needed a stiffer flex. Most of my misses are straight pushes. It seems to help me straighten out my shot if I move my ball placement forward. Just wondering if a stiffer flex would help.

I would recommend posting your average driver distance and your average 7 iron distance. From these, quite a few posters should be able to give you some basic advice. shft flex is extremely dependent on a number of factors so if you are really serious, i would recommend finding a good local golf shop and ask them the same question after looking at your swing.

no no, he answered his own question. you moved the ball forward and it no longer pushed out. Play the ball forward. check your alignments. maybe even go to a pro. mostly not the shaft.

Call me crazy, but did you try choking down a bit (~ 3/4 ")? Many new drivers have a stock shaft that's too long - my G10 sure does.

My average carry with driver on flat ground with no wind is probably around 230. This usally puts me in the 220 to 250 range depending on whether im uphill, downhill, or with wind, or no wind. 7 iron is about 145 to 155.
The closest place I could get on a monitor is about 1 and a half hours away, so I was wondering if anything stood out to anybody based on the info I gave.
Also when I say that I move the ball forward, I mean off the toes of my front foot. When I play the ball off my heel is when the pushes come in. Sometimes I can get the face close a little and the push will draw back enough to keep it in play, but rarely back to where Im aiming.

Sounds like a ball position or swing issue - you really don't need a stiff shaft - stiff"er" perhaps, but not an "S".

I have the same issue with pushes (With the occasional pull hook thrown in for good measure).

My driver carry is about the same as the OP's... 225-235 range, ending up anywhere from 240-250 something. 265 if I really put some stank on it. The weirdness comes in a bit, here... My 7i sits around the 165-170 range. My clubs are lofted a bit strongly, so I'd use my 8i for comparison when people are asking for 7i distance (Because I think the lofts are more closely compared when you look at most sets). 8i goes 155-160.

My SS gets up to 105, but my usual swing is a mellower 95. I'm usually encouraged by Golf Store People to get a stiffer shaft.

More imporantly for me at THIS point, I think, is getting a bit -heavier- shaft more than worrying about the flex too much (I'm borderline enough to adjust to either, I'm starting to think). My current is a 45g and it's a whippy bugger.

Another option for ME would also be to suck less. I had an excellent driving day last week, striping 5 out of 5 driver shots on the nine dead center down the fairway. So it -can- be done with these tools... though I do wonder if I'm not making it a bit harder on myself.

(Random: I'm also seeming to have a good deal of success with the slightly open-faced clubs I've hit. I -am- a hooker... the dead push might be an overcompensation?)

get fitted, the wrong shaft flex can make the shaft load and unload at the wrong time

ugh. yea i just got some MX300s and a R9 both in regular flex. i hope i don thave to reshaft to a stiff shaft. then it wasnt worth what i paid for both =\

but yea i suppose i should get out on the range and try them out asap.
