Um, Yes? Never haveany problems here.

Yeah, not here either. I can't fix something I can't see myself... If anything I've sped the site up slightly with a change to a MySQL setting.

I agree. Must be his internet service. My pages load in under 2 seconds.

Yeah the issue seems to only be affecting a few of us. The site continues to be unusable for me at home while I can access it fine from a friend's house with the same ISP. I'll have to be content with doing all my browsing from work. Actually doing "work" is overrated anyway.

Unfortunately nobody's shared enough information - OS, Browser, etc. - that we or you can find the common link and find the problem. I suggest trying a different browser. I don't know if it'll work (probably not?), but it will at least help you to narrow something down.

No slow-loading problems with IE 8 / XP SP2 combo (prefer Firefox 3.6.3, but it likes to crash...)

Slow for me as well, slow at work 90% of the time and at home sometimes.

Work Laptop
HP6910p/XP Pro/IE8/Gigabit Ethernet connection

Home Laptop
Dell XPS M1530/Win7/Google Chrome/3MB ADSL

Using it now on Work Laptop via 7MB 3G dongle and again it is crawling but loaded this part of the forum fast? maybe you have a load issue on certain pages due to amount of requests?

Nothing Windows. Linux and Apache with MySQL 5, and PHP 5.

i browse from work and home. No issues here. If you haven't already might want to clear cache, reset your broadband modem and router. Make sure there are no kinks in the cable. (OK..I just made the last one up, but the other thoughts are legitimate)

No, I think I've got it. I bet all the people who find the site to be slow aren't using 100% MONSTER Internet cables. My computer connects via WiFi but I even use solid gold airwaves from MONSTER Cables. Only cost me $2200, which is why the site has a whopping 2-3 ads on it... I had to pay for my Monster cables, you see...

OK, here is what I found out after an hour long discussion with 3 levels of tech support. Time Warner cable had me do a trace and a ping on your site. No luck on my end with IE8 and Firefox. The cable company did the same (with a t1 connection) and they also had trouble. But what they told me was during the trace, the first 11 levels of connections were on their network and encountered no problems. However on the 12th level, after leaving their network they encountered something called "timing out" at "telia.net". Now I have no idea what any of this means except a crappy connection for me. Hope this helps. Please try and fix this.

That's not something we can fix.

telia.net is a network. I don't know if they're a backbone to the Internet at all but if you're going through them to get to The Sand Trap, then that's their issue. The red stuff is obviously to my local router. The blue stuff is all on my RoadRunner (Time Warner) network. They're in or around Akron - you can see "clevoh" which likely means "cleveland, ohio". The green stuff is when my network traffic leaves RoadRunner (.rr.) and heads out to the backbones and through the other networks, eventually arriving at MediaTemple which hosts the site. I can't do anything about telia.net. They've either misconfigured something or your ISP has. BTW, here are 10 pings to the site:

Wel, I replied earlier but something went wrong. I googled telia.net and clicked on their parent company. The delay in loading their page was nearly identical to yours so I think they are certainly the guilty party. However that does not solve the problem. I shot them a brief email but if their whole network is slow I think they would already be aware of the problem. So what now? BTW, why would a connection from Ohio to NC be routed through Sweeden or Finland?

I don't know what hop 9 is but I'm guessing it's the source of the problem. The first 8 hops match traceroutes I've run on sites that are loading quickly, and 10-16 match yours.

And I've tried every combination of Vista, XP, Firefox, IE, even breaking out the Wii with no luck. I know one of my friends near me also has Bright House and can access the site just fine so I'm going to see if I can get her to run a traceroute and try and isolate the problem.

So I've been having issues Since Saturday. Literally every button I press on Sand Trap takes 30-45 seconds to load and work. It's like having Dial Up again. I assumed that the Forum or site was updating and it would work itself out but it hasn't yet.

Anything I can do? It's really frustrating and has kept me from reading and surfing since reading two or three threads would take me about ten minutes.

And like I said it's only this site. I haven't any other problems with the net.

Just to update: the extreme slowness that I originally reported in April has been present since then and through yesterday 8/8. However, this afternoon 8/9 the site pages have loaded at the download speeds I was used to prior to April; i.e. the normal broadband speeds. I am not conscious of anything I did with my home system over the last couple of days to cause this improvement (or remove the previous impediment). But it is nice to have the speed back.

    • I have won the net division of the 2024 William Anderson Match Play Championships at Neshanic Valley Golf Course.
    • I won the net division of the match play tournament. Yesterday was the semifinals and my opponent conceded the round to me on the 2nd hole because he knew he would be unavailable for the final today. I got lucky there and got a bye into the finals. We did end up playing our match as an exhibition and I would have lost. It was the worst round of the tournament for me and I think knowing that the match didn't matter might have been a factor. I'll write up a blog post about the whole experience at some point. Today I won, 3&1. My opponent and I halved the first three holes much to his credit. I was striping it and he just kept scrambling and hanging in there. We both blew up on the par 3 4th hole but I ended up taking that one by holing an 8-footer for double bogey. I went up 2 after he put two in the penalty area on #5 and promptly gave that hole back by putting my tee shot into the penalty area on #6 by a foot. It's important to note that most of the penalty areas on this course are deemed environmentally sensitive areas and we are not allowed to enter or play shots out of them. So even though I physically was able to play a shot from where I was on #6, I could not, by rule. I followed that by winning #7, making a 25' birdie putt and finished the front 9 3 up after he had some bunker trouble on #9. I went up 4 by winning #11 (we both sucked on that hole but he missed the putt to halve). On #12 we both hit the green with our tee shots. He hit his first putt past the hole and I lagged mine inside of 4' with an uphill putt for par. His putt for par was too long again, just inside of mine but definitely outside of gimme range. I gave him that one for bogey. I felt at the time, being 4 up, that I didn't want to win the hole because he ends up missing a 3-footer and fourputted or something. I wanted to win the hole by making my par putt. I did not. He probably would have made the putt anyway (he's not me after all, and he made everything in that range all day) but it seemed like the sporting thing to do at the time. He was genuinely surprised I gave it to him, butI felt good about it. Then it almost bit me in the ass as he started to mount a comeback. We halved #13 after he made a great up & down and he took #14 with a long par putt. He also won #15 with a 5' birdie putt. We halved #16 with a pair of bogeys after he put his tee shot in the water and I missed a 4-footer for the win. We got to #17 and I was still 2 up. He hit his tee shot just off the back of the green to an extended apron area short of the back bunker and I put mine on the green pin high but 30' away. He was actually closer so I played first and hit it within a foot for par. He didn't hole out for birdie which sealed the match and ended up making bogey on the hole. With the pressure off, we both played the par 5 #18 well. He played it as a three shot hole like a normal person and hit it to 8' and two-putted for par. I striped my drive and ended up with a downhill lie to an uphill approach like 180 yards out and gave myself the green light to go for it in two. Thin hooked it into thick rough to the left of the green with a bunker in between and hit a high flop to 4', probably my best shot of the day. Made the birdie putt.
