Has anyone else noticed the coorelation between the head moving in front of the ball in the backswing and poor ballstriking (esp. fat/thin shots)?

If I'm reading it right that's the dreaded reverse C position.
Scooping /thinning the shot. OTT malady. Lots of Bummer things can happen

Yeah, I agree, because when I do that (trying to kill the poor ball) I end up in the reverse C. My quick fix, look at my right pinkie toe on the backswing. If I can't see it, I need to abort the swing because I'm about to skull the shot.

I don't see the correlation between head moving forward and Reverse C, it would be quite the opposite actually, that you finish with the head over the body, or slightly in front of it.

I hit poor shots when my head moves forward, no doubt about that. When I'm striking the ball poorly, I'm doing one or two things wrong. One being the head moving back, forward or too early up, two being not enough hip push forward. I just focus on my head not moving and look at the ball.

Were ever your head moves, it usually move opposite when you swing down. So if your head moves towards the target in the backswing, for balance you will probably move your head back in the backswing. This is bad because if you move your head back in the backswing, your more likely to come out of the shot and not get off your right side. This will cause your right shoulder to come up, and you will either hit before the ball or catch it thin.

You want your head to move in the same direction as your weight shift. Your head will always move a bit, its inevitable.

Sounds like a reverse pivot to me. And, yes, it causes all kinds of problems. In addition to thin, fat shots, etc., it's also a huge power drain because your weight goes over onto the front foot in the backswing and then onto the back foot in the downswing which is the opposite of a proper weight shift.

Yep, you over swing in an attempt to crush the ball, lil tip, keep your left cheek behind the ball

I'm realizing now that a root flaw I have in my swing is moving my head (and upper body) in front of the golf ball to start the downswing, instead of my hips. I'm learning through my practice that if I keep my head still, my upper body stays still, and what I'm working on in my lessons (get the hips past the ball before my hands) happens naturally. Golf's biggest secret may be to slide the hips, but until you keep your head from moving drastically forward, a good hip slide is impossible.

Well this is flaw is absolutely driving me crazy. I can't seem to shake it. My head is perfect until about arms 90* on backswing. Then my head starts to creep forward. At the start of the down swing, my head moves forward even further. At impact, my head moves back to about where started. I know this causes huge amounts of inconsistencies and power loss. I can't seem to shake it though. Worst part is if I video myself swinging without hitting a ball, my head stays pretty still. It's just when you put a ball in front of me that I have issues.

Maybe 90° is to much for you. Many think they need to get to 90, but then all they do is over stretch the swing and they loose themselves forward (reverse Pivot)

The first time I have slight head movement front to back, I usually have a rockin' day with super tee shots.

The second round in a row I have head movement, my swing falls apart about hole 4 and I have a terrible day. Plus, it takes about two range sessions to recover.
