to those of you who shoot in the 70's and better, do you ever take full swings with your most lofted wedge?

I currently have a 52, 56, and 60, but I'm considering dropping the 60 and 56 and replacing them with a 58. I never take a full swing with the 60, and often have trouble trying to decide which one of them I should be hitting around the green b/c I feel like I get similar results with both of them. Also, as of late, I've been somewhat inconsistent out of the sand and I think it maybe due to the high bounce on my 56 or the low bounce on my 60. Would any of you recommend this switch? I'm not really looking to add another club with the switch, I just think it may improve my consistency around the green, and I might be able to take full swings with the 58 as well. I might consider throwing a 2 hybrid in the bag, or adding a 5w...

Any help would be appreciated!

Ummmm Well yes, but it's a certain type of shot. It's kind of High spinning shot that I can get to spin back even if I only hit it about 15min.
Im not actully sure what this shot is called, co ill explain it. Ball right at the back on your stance, hands forward and then taking a full swing will produce a very high spinning shot. It's a pitch shot im guessing, just a weird way. Btw I play 56 and 60 degree wedges not 55 and 59 I think my sig says.

The bounce can play a part in misshits but I think it is more a fault in your swing that is causing you to be inconsistant with bunker shots. If I were you I would have a lesson with a local pro.

Did you have alot of sand in the bunkers you usually play in? If there is alot of sand, more bounce is going to help! If not much sand then you want less bounce.

Yeah my full (smooth swing) 60 degree is right on 85 yards. Inside that yardage I use either my 56* or 60* depending on the pin placement etc.

As far as green side bunkers I use my 56* when it is good sand and pull out the 60* when the sand is hard packed.

I don't shoot 70s or better, not sure why that matters, but I use my 60 with a full swing from about 70-80 yards out. I also use it for 20 yard pitch shots that need to get a bit of height (for example, a false green front or something). Out of the sand I use my 56 but I also use it around the green for chip shots, mostly because I just feel comfortable with it.

i use the Pelze 4x3 system, so i currently have 46* cleveland cg10(PW), 52* rac gw, 56* cg10, and 60 cg10/cg12(i alternate them). i use my 60 out of the sand mostly. i take full swings with each wedge, and have 3 finesse distances. it's a great system and has improved my game alot.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
